•Flashforward to Salem's fifth birthday•
Marina's pov:
I have such a smart sweet and strong little girl. She has long honey brown hair and she loves her dad's beanies. She doesn't have many friends because of me and Phil. They think we can't raise OUR CHILD. She's not being forced to scrub the floors or listen to Justin Bieber she's mentally stable and we discipline her rationally. Just because I'm grunge and a younger woman they think I shouldn't be in charge of raising Salem. She's so sweet and it's not that other kids don't like her it's that she's my daughter.  But anyway back to her party I can't believe she's already five years old. I watch as my babygirl dances around the living room with her good friends covered in purple icing. I laugh as she pulls me up to dance to one of her favorite songs, SOS by LKA. I spin her and her friend Timothy around and when the song ends they let me go and run off to dance with some of the others and I curl up next to Phil and yawn. As he smooths down my hair I feel myself being pulled towards sleep. But before I can the first parent comes to pick up their children. They like Salem but most parents just leave before they can talk with me Phil looks softer than me so they will carry on a conversation with him but I apparently look scary like I worship Satan or something. Newsflash though I am a agnostic sooooo, no just no. I'm actually nicer than Phil, nevermind scratch that I can be way meaner. Whatever though it's their loss because I'm a great potato friend (lol sorry this character is based on me so I'm weird and say weird stuffz). As the kids leave and only Timothy and my little Salem are left I start making dinner.
Summer is coming to an end and then my girl and her best friend will be in kindergarten. Wow parenting does go by fast. I hear a knock on the door and think it's Eliza , Timothy's mom, and go to answer it. But who I find there I feel like breaking down and crying but instead I just slam the door shut. "Who was that?" Phil asks as I storm away hot tears spilling from my eyes. " Trash!" " Oh your parents?" " No the mail man! Of course it's them!" " Take Salem into the other room and I'll handle them." " Thanks babe." I hug him as he stays my tears and ushers me and Salem and Timothy into the kitchen. When we get there I hear muffled voices in the other room and feel my little girl cling to my leg and I lean down to pat her head softly. I finish making Mac and cheese and chicken nuggets every mom's favorite meal, cheap and fast. I make plates as Phil walks in with the man I dread behind him. I think hes melting he has this weird water stuff in his eyes because there is no way this man has any emotions. I freeze and Salem looks confused. I whisper" get out of my house.." "  listen to him babe you might want to hear him out." " Fine but not in front of my child" I hiss and walk pass them purposely pushing past them. Phil stays to eat with the kids and I walk upstairs to Salem's room start cleaning up in there and my father stands in the doorway." So where's mom?" " She died last month..." " Oh.."
