It's seems like a quiet day in the Tokyo University library. It's 2pm, not much people in the science (Chemistry) section. Just one guy (who seems to be already a regular comer due to the massive books arranged on the table) sleeping at the back.
Scene 1: location: Tokyo university library, time: 2pm, guy sleeping on a table in the corner of the library.
Blurred Dream sequence: a girl and a boy talking with each other with the boy trying really hard to hold his tears.
Girl's voice: do you promise to wait for me?
Boy's voice: *sniff-sniff* I promise! I promise I will!
SFX: *cellphone rings*
Ryu: *grunts* (guys wakes up and picks up the phone) what?!
Cellphone: *lady voice* Ryu? You sound like you just got out of bed.
Ryu: (startled) mom? Sorry i fell asleep. I have to drop coz I'm here at the library.
Mom: such a good boy, looks like you're still working hard studying as usual.
Ryu: thanks, I'll call you later.
Mom: no! This will just be quick.
Ryu: I only have 5 minutes.
Mom: I need you to pick up Mai from the airport. She'll be coming home from the US today. Arrival time is 4pm, flight JL098.
Ryu: (still half asleep) uh uh...
Mom: ok sweetie, mom has to go as well, it's already 2am here. I'll text you the details in a bit. Take care sweetie! Love you!!
Ryu: love you too! (Hangs up)
Mom: (hangs up)
Ryu: (realizes) who the hell is Mai?
Ryu immediately runs off the library and went towards the communication and arts department. Goes straight to the student council office and slams the door open.
Ryu: Hatori who is Mai?
An attractive guy and a hot girl were practically interrupted by Ryu while they were in the middle of a heated flirting session. Girl shyly pushes the guy away from her and runs out of the room.
Hatori: (somewhat annoyed but still manage to show a cool face) Thanks for that wonderful entrance Ryu. How may I be of service?
Ryu: I already asked you. I need you to tell me Who on earth is Mai?
Hatori: are you seriously asking me that question?
Ryu: (annoyed) I wouldn't go through all this trouble if I knew.
Hatori: (scratches chin) good point. Hmmm.. Let me see.. I think he was your half brother who had an operation and is now a she
Ryu: (wide eyed) Haaaaaaa?!
Hatori: pfffffft!!!! *laughs hard while slapping his knee* oh my god! You should have seen the look on your face!! Hahaha!
Ryu: (grabs Hatori by the shirt) I'm not here to joke around.
Hatori: chill Ryu! Since it's not really often you come visit. I thought I might as well make things interesting right?
Ryu: (shoves Hatori towards the wall) stop being such a jerk!
Hatori: still Ill-tempered I see. You still pissed about Miyu's departure?
Ryu: (even more annoyed) shut up! Stick to the topic.
Hatori: OK-ok!! Hmmm.. Mai.. Mai.. Hmmm.. I think.. she was your childhood sweetheart back in kindergarten.
Ryu: (frowns) are you sure you're not making that up again?
Hatori: yep! I don't want to annoy you any further. All I can remember is that she used to be your neighbor back in the good old days.
Ryu: (thinks to himself: how come I can't remember anything?)
Hatori: you practically cried when her family had to move to the US and even wanted to ship yourself in a courier box just to see her again.
Ryu: (thinks to himself: well at least he got the US part correct which means he might be telling the truth.)
Hatori: (takes his cellphone and makes a call) hey Kurt, can you do me a favor and find our primary school yearbook and send me a copy of our class picture? I need it sent within 10 minutes. Great! Thanks! (Hangs up even before the other person could even reply)
After a few minutes Hatori's cellphone received a text message.
SFX: *text message*
Hatori: as expected from Kurt. Good job! (Hands phone over to Ryu)
Ryu: (surprised) now I remember! She was that annoying neighbor who kept on hanging out with me!! Damn! Why the hell should I have to pick her up?
Hatori: (looks outside the window and thinks to himself: so Mai's returning to japan. Seems like things would be more interesting for Ryu.. This I got to see.) *smirk*
When Hatori turned his back for a few minutes later did he realize that Ryu has already gone back to his usual spot in the university library.
Ryu: (thinks to himself: whatever! I shouldn't be bothered by having pick up such a troublesome old neighbor. She should be capable of taking care of herself. Why on earth should I care?)
Ryu goes back to his studying routine and did not mind even if it was already quarter passed 4pm.
