Tell Me, Love

"What is love really?" He asked her.

" I don't know...But I can tell you it's not like the ones in the movies" She replied bitterly

" I think I know what love is."

" Oh? Then why even bother to ask me."

" Because..." He trailed off, not really wanting to explain himself.

" Hmmm. Fine. But tell me, what is love then? "

" It's a feeling of course. You can love many things in life, adore those things with your heart, like your pet, or your family, or even your favorite tv show! But to be in love...That's a whole entire different thing. For you see, you can love someone, like they're your moon, they're your stars, they're your sky, they're the reason you wake up. They're the reason you keep trying to live in this miserable life. But it's not being in love."

" Then what is it? To be in love? "

" It's like... Being with them is all you'll never need. Now I'm not talking about being all pressed up against them, and not being able to stand to be any less than 2 inches away from each other, like all these new couple that keep popping up in my friggin Instagram feed. But this feeling like, knowing they're there, with you,  is enough. That when you look at them, there's not this fast pulsing oh my god I'm gonna die feeling, but there's this warmth. I don't know how to describe it really. It's just that you know, that this, this person right here, is the one you wish to be with forever. To be in love, it's not just this spark. It may start out that way, but eventually, it will die. To be in love, it's like, having this eternal blazing flame in the midst of a windy day, wavering, but never going out. It's like being with them, you know there are other people in the room but all you want, all need, all you see, is them. It's like when the one you are in love with is crying, is hurt, rather than trying to cheer them up and make them forget about their sadness, but you hold them and never let them go. You want to be the shoulder they get all wet with their tears, the arms they run to when they're scared, the person they can show their vulnerability too. And honestly, in my opinion, it only happens once. You can love many people, but still, there is just that one person, the one you call home."

" Wow.....Honestly, I'm blown away... It almost even sounds like you're in love right now. "

" Hmm...nah.." He timidly spoke. He looked at her, in a room full of people bustling about creating a ruckus...But all he saw was her.
