"I said I don't want to play with you guys okay?!" a six year old Brynn squealed to the four boys that were crowding around her now shrinking figure as she slid down onto the pavement.
"We didn't ask what you wanted to do, did we?" scoffed Bradley, the tallest boy in the group who was towering over Brynn and looking down on her. He formed a cocky smile and Brynn looked back down to her feet.
"No, but it's still not fair to force me to do something," Brynn managed to say in a mousy voice, obviously flustered and upset. Another one of the boys sat down next to her and grinned, placing a hand on her shoulder. She tried to swat it off but the boy gripped her wrist and put her hand back in her lap and replacing his own to where it was.
"Now, what kind of game do you want to play, Bin?" Arthur, another one of the boys, asked in scruffy manner. "I'd appreciate if you didn't call me that," she said and began to chip her pink nail polish. "I know, how about truth or dare, my older brother plays it all the time," Tommy chirped and the other boys nodded.
"I'll go first," said a boy who was quickly approaching the group, he quickly looked down at Brynn before turning to the group of boys. "I dare you to let Brynn play with me at recess, every day forever," he said in an ever confident voice as he crossed his short arms. "And who are you dweeb," Bradley spat towards the shorter boy.
"I'm Jason. Now tell me, are you man enough to accept my dare? Or should I go tell Ally over there that you couldn't even do the first round of T or D?" he questioned and the blood seemed to rush from Bradley's face at the mention of his kindergarten crush's name.
"N-no, no. We accept. Go on Brynn," he said and ushered the other boys to get away from her. Jason held his hand out and Brynn graciously accepted, being pulled to her feet by his noodley 6 year old arm. Jason kept a hold on her hand and they walked over towards a bench on the other side of the playground. Neither of them said a word until they sat down.
Jason dropped Brynn's hand and as soon as he did she piped up, "thanks! they always try to get me to play that game and make me do bad stuff. I'm tired of getting in trouble." Jason smiled and shook his head. "No problem, they shouldn't treat you like that and I erm- I needed a friend anyways, if you want to be friends?" he said, looking down to hide the blush that rose to the surface of his cheeks. "I'd love to be friends!" Brynn exclaimed and threw her arms around Jason in a warming hug. "Oh, good." he muttered and hugged her back.
From that day on, Jason and Brynn were best friends, inseparable at any given moment. It would be this way until they were 17.
AUTHOR'S NOTE
Hey, it's E. I know the kids may talk and seem a little mature for kindergartener's but I was really excited about how I was writing this and didn't take into account the fact that they were six year olds...
I hope you can ignore that and love this chapter of the book as much as I do because I think it's pretty cute, but I am biased. Anyways, what do you think of this chapter? And should I keep writing this book?
Till next time
