I looked around the room, which was like the rest of the train, only with a bed and no table with food, I wondered if the rooms in the training center will be like this as well. To my right were the bed and a dresser. There was a small window beside the bed. I could barely see the trees as the train sped along the track. The room was empty except for that and a door on the other side. I went over and looked in the door. It was a huge bathroom. Their bathrooms were even fancy. I decided to go ahead and take a shower.
The water felt so good. The shower had different settings, too, so you could chose the way you want it. I spent almost an hour just standing there letting the cool water run down my body. It had different body washes and hair products as well. When I step out of the shower, they had electric dryers that I put my hand on and my body is dry, even my hair. Then I put back on my mother’s dress.
I did not want to sit in the room and watch as we passed tree after tree so I decided to explore a little. My room was at the back of the train so I went back into the room I had crossed into. Haymitch was in there but he was asleep on the couch, a bottle of alcohol clutched in his hands. There were a few more bottles spread around the room that I had not noticed before. I walked over to where he was. I poked him on the head. He did not even move.
“Just like dad.” I sighed. As I walked to the door, I picked up some bottle to move them. As I did, Effie came in.
“What are you doing?” she asked looking at me holding the bottles.
“Oh, no I wasn’t going to drink this!” I told her. “I was just moving the bottles from the floor.”
She took the bottles from me and set them on the table near the door. “We don’t want you to end up like him.” she said and pointed to Haymitch.
“Trust me, I don’t either.” I said looking at him. “It’s disgusting.”
“I was just coming to get you for dinner. Come along.” She said and walked into the next cart.
I followed her into the one we were in when we watched the reaping. Then she went into the next one.
“Shouldn’t we wake Haymitch?” I asked walking into the cart behind her.
“I will get someone to do that later. He doesn’t like to be waken so soon. He drinks all night, and sleeps all day!” she said.
The room was like the others, but it had a huge table with a lot of food. Jethro was already eating when we walked in. I sat down across from Jethro and Effie sat at the head of the table. People came and gave us drinks and served us. We had a fancy salad, then a steak. They had a lot of sides as well. I had about six rolls, that were amazing, and two servings of mashed potatoes. I had never eaten as much food as I just did. And I would be able to eat as much as I wanted till the Games began. Might as well enjoy it.
We did not talk while we ate. About half way through the meal, Haymitch stumbled in. He sat at the end of the table and started eating.
“We will get to the Capitol tomorrow.” Haymitch said.
I stared at him. He was supposed to help us; he was supposed to keep us alive. I felt like my father was sitting right there, not caring if I lived or died. I was mad at him. I was mad at him, my father, Effie and her perky self, Jethro-not really knowing why-and President Snow. I was mad about The Hunger Games. This was his fault. All the deaths from these Games were because of Snow. Travis’s sister died in the Games, people from my home died, people from other district died, twenty-three people each year died, I am going to die and it’s all because of him.
