Charlotte

Ok so in school we had hardly had any toys.It was just books.However we did have a set of dolls that Miss Black had got for us when she just came.I knew she was lovely.Becky found them in Miss Blacks luggage and had taken it.Miss Black said we can keep them but we had to be careful.She said they were cheeky and disobedient but we just laughed and giggled when she left us in the dorm.I would sometimes go and play with the dolls.Muss Black told us the story and she sang the ballad.
"Fair Charlotte lived on the mountain side"
That was the first part of the ballad although the rest is a distant memory.I remember the story:

Charlotte lived on the mountain side and was a disobedient girl.She was going to ball one night with her boyfriend Charles.Her mother said
"Wear a coat dear child"but Charlotte just wore a thin whit cloak and left on her carriage ride.Charles and Charlotte ride together but Charles had worn a black coat that night and Charlotte was getting cold.Charles had offered his coat but Charlotte was too full of pride and refused.Charles thought that he would not survive with a girl like this and was plotting on how to get rid of her.Charlotte was pushed out of the carriage by the wind and lay there on the ground while Charles went to the ball.Charles was killed there at the doorstep and left there to freeze by the loving mother who was looking for her daughter.She still searches and Charlotte tries hard to get her attention,but the poor girl had died there on the cliffs of Scotland.

So that was the story.I know that it sounds strange but that I hear the dolls at night,scratching lightly on the box.I hear them giggling at night.
