Several Days Earlier...
The main entrance to old brick building was lively. The sun was shining brilliantly, the wind was crisp and cold at the same time with students talking, laughing and hanging out with each other in their own little groups. So far it was a fairly peaceful day.
Usually at a time like this something crazy would –
"Laaaaaaaaaaauuuuureeeeeeeeeen!!" It was a deadly high pitch screech.
Deadly enough to silence all the students out of fear.
A petite Cuban woman in her early-thirties burst through the halls causing all the students to back away. They knew it was in their best health and interest not to get in the principal's way.
If they weren't so engulfed in terror, some might even find their principal's situation quite amusing... she was drench in blue paint and smelt like weed.
The hall was deadly silent. Of course no one would dared to laugh or they would pay serious consequences.
Diane Guerrero-Cabello is East High's principal and was popularly known for her role in Orange is the New Black, and that's all there is to it.
"Where the hell is Lauren Jauregui?!" She slammed her fist into the nearest locker. The varsity guy next to it fainted.
Diane eyed the students suspiciously as if they were hiding something.
Her high stilettoes clicking through the large granite tiles were the only sound everyone could make as she made her way through the fear traumatized teens cowering away like flies.
Oh they knew better to not get involve with the principal.
Somewhere deep within the darkest hall where students don't go in fear of the haunted stories revolving around that certain area... there stood a lone figure in the shadows snickering to herself as she puffs out smoke looking at someone's live feed on her phone of their principal's 'little scene'.
A poor brave soul Lauren thought as she imaged thousands of scenarios wherein Ms Cabello would murder that student.
"Boo."
"Holy mother of Go—"
"Nope it's just me."
Lauren nearly screamed as she turned to see the smug face of her only friend.
"Geez Lauren calm your lesbian tits will yah." Troy replied smugly as he flipped his fabulous curly fringe. "Anyway did you noticed anything new?" the boy asked smiling cutely as he pouted almost emphasizing his new Fenty lip gloss.
Lauren just stared blankly at her too gay to function friend, the blunt she was smoking is slowly taking effect. The girl once again failed to notice what the new thing Troy was stating out is.
So she just stood there quietly taking in the effects of her bob with her mouth slightly parted looking at nothing in particular.
"Well?" Troy once again tried his best to emphasize his plum lips by puckering it while trying to be irritated by Lauren's aloof demeanor.
Finally after a few minutes Lauren smiled as if she just discovered penicillin... or whatever Troy was referring to.
"Ah! You got a new tie!" The brunette exclaimed a little too loud, as she grinned to herself proud that for the first time she knew what the fuck Troy was referring to.
Apparently not.
And he's not even wearing a tie.
The latter's right eye twitched in irritation. "You know I still wonder why we're friends..."
"Touché."
Truth be told the two friends shared nothing in common except for the fact that they were the only proud and about lgbt teens in school. And the fact that both of them were branded losers.
Though the world is more open to lgbt now than before, there are still certain walls that are standing diving one from the other. Truth is people fear the unknown and people shun what is different. And for both teens it's either one or the other.
Character wise, Troy's into fashion. The boy had always dreamt of becoming a fashion designer in the future, while Lauren... well Lauren's into smoking weed and sleeping.
The bell rang and both friends made their way into the west wing of the building.
"So, what's our class for today?"
"Seriously? The semester started over a month ago."
Lauren just shrugged at her friends comment, it's not like she attends first period anyway. With all honesty, the girl would rather go up to the roof top and smoke weed than go to boring homeroom.
"You should start getting serious Lo, we're juniors now. Give and take a few more years and we're off to college! Have you seriously thought about that?"
"Listen dude, it's not like I get a say to what I'll become anyway. So why bother."
Troy shook his head upon hearing the same lame excuse coming out Lauren's mouth as both friends made their way to their homeroom.
"You know what I don't get."
"hmmm"
"Why aren't you doing anything about it? I mean come on, we both know you don't play by the rules." The boy stated.
"That's cause you don't know Mike Jauregui like I do man." Lauren answered as she flopped down to the corner seat with Troy sitting next to her bringing out his pamper kit.
Troy shrugged. Not everyone knows Lauren's parents except a few people and that few people haven't even had the privilege of meeting the latter's parents.
Lauren was mostly closed off to everyone including her friends. In contrast to that she was a person who tends to speak her mind in things she deems to be passionate about.
"You're so gay Troy." Lauren commented snickering as Troy proceeded to retouch his plum lips with his new Fenty lip gloss that he begged his mom to buy.
"Tell me something I don't know bitch."
Lauren shook her head at that and relaxed into her seat as she proceeded to put on her earphones.
Music was her solace. Closing her eyes the brunette faded into a blissful comfort allowing her mind to wonder in the soft melody of the piano playing...
And she wondered indeed. She wondered what her life would be if her dad's family didn't found out about her long ago. She wondered what it would be like if her mother was still around. Maybe just maybe, life can be a bit different for her.
Maybe it can be a little bit better...
