In a moment we were all pressed together trying to block off all the Outcasts. Prakash was freaking out. "We're all gonna die!"
"NO we're not!" Akash said as he launched another fireball at an Outcast. In contrast, I frosted over another Outcast.
"Wait!" I said suddenly. "I've got an idea!" I whispered into Akash's ear. Then the following things happened.
Akash turned and cast a warm glow over Prakash and my sister. Meanwhile I brought the temperature down REALLY low. My sister brought up a cloud and made it hail. Pretty soon all the Outcasts were freezing. But we were merciless. I brought the temperature down even lower until even I started to feel cold. But I could stand it. My sister made it snow. The Outcasts started to desperately try to leave. Akash smiled, as suddenly, everyone become very easy to target. He turned and winked. "Watch this." He mouthed. He brought his hands up, losing the warm glow on himself and Prakash and my sister. Prakash had to take over. Akash then threw a shield of hot fire over the Outcasts. The sudden change in temperature brought them all to their knees. Their nerves were about to burst.
"Stop it!!!" Akash lost his concentration over the familiar voice. Five year old Helia stood there, shaking with barely controlled outrage and sadness. "You're gonna kill them all!" she said.
Medaryl came hurrying after. "What have you done?" she said, horrified.
We all turned, and truelly looked at what we had done. We had brought every single Outcast to their knees, moaning with pain. Four of us, against all of them. "Cool!" Akash said. He turned and high fived me. He proceeded to do it with Prakash but Prakash only shook his head sadly.
"What have we done?" he muttered.
Medaryl scowled, "This is going to take all my medical supplies up."
Akash looked mortified, "You're going to use all our medical supplies on them?!"
"You caused it." Medaryl said. She frowned and began to help Outcast after Outcast. "The least you can do is help!" she snapped.
I had never seen her this cranky before. Well, I guess we did give her a whole bunch of more worries. "Come on guys." I muttered, barely above a whisper, "As much as I hate saying this, we've gotta help them."
"But they're the bad guys!" Akash whined, "Why do we have to help them?!"
"Not all of us are bad."
We all looked down to see who had spoken. A boy lay on the floor, clutching his leg with a pained expression. I gasped when I saw he had a scar. He was identical to the boy in my dream. Akash glanced at me with a knowing glance. "Sure, whatever." he murmured, and then proceeded to help the boy up to his feet. "Sorry." he whispered.
The boy shrugged. "I would've done the same if I was threatened."
I purposefully avoided my future opponent and her mother. I stooped to help the most least scariest. It was another boy, who looked like he had never experienced as much pain before. Funny, because Outcasts experience a lot of pain, so why did this Outcast act so different? "Are you okay?" I whispered.
The boy looked up at me, and he was afraid. He opened his mouth, but thought better of it and shut it again. "Okaaaaay." I said. I reached out my hand to help him up, and after a moment's hesitation he took it, reluctantly. "Steady now." I said, and pulled him up, as gently as I could. Yet, he still cried out in pain. Now I just felt bad. But lucky for us Outcasts were former gods and goddesses, just banished, so they could still heal fast like us. "How bad is it?" I asked.
He grit his teeth and avoided my eyes. "Bad." he said. I barely heard it.
"Oh." I supported him and took him as far as two feet, but he was clearly suffering. Sighing, I snapped my finger and activated anti - gravity. With a surprised shout he floated up. He looked up at me with wide eyes. "What?" I said, shrugging. "That way you don't have to walk!" He looked at me like I was crazy, but with a sigh he closed his eyes and let me pick through my way of the people on the floor and float him over to Medaryl. At the last minute I changed my mind. When I thought Med wasn't looking I floated him slowly past her and down the hall. Quickly following, I took him to the Peace Room and laid him on the bed.
He opened his eyes and stared around. Finally he said, in the same quiet voice, "Where are the others?"
"Oh, they're all probably in the Healing Ward, but you know, I thought you could use some peace and quiet."
He nodded and laid his head down onto the pillow of the water bed. "Why'd you do it?"
"What?" I walked towards him and then at the last minute sat on the floor next to the bed. He didn't answer, only turned away and groaned from the effort. "Why aren't you like the others?" I didn't expect him to answer this either but he did anyway.
"I'm new."
That made sense. Not all banished people went to the growing army of Outcasts. Some chose to live as a mortal. But the leader of Outcasts was always looking for more people to recruit, and she wouldn't stop until there were no more banished gods or goddesses left in the mortal world. "What did you do to get banished?" I was almost afraid to ask. It had to be something really bad. A thought struck me, were the actions I just commited enough to make me an Outcast? I shuddered. I snapped out of my thoughts to hear what he had to say. The word he said next surprised me.
"Nothing."
I sat there stunned, and a moment later his soft snoring filled the room. I got up quietly and left the room.
