*Daltons POV*

*************************************

Shit. I'm late.
Hurriedly I grab my shoes and stumble out the door as I sloppily tie knots on the shoelaces.
I grab my bike and quickly speed down my street.
"Oh god I promised myself I would have a decent attendance this semester." I thought to myself as I sped down the bumpy pavement.
As soon as I get to school I practically throw my bike at the bike rack and sprint to my first class of the semester, History.
As soon as I walk through the door I hear the three words I hear every morning.
"Ah Mr. Trayne. You're late. Again." My teacher hissed.
"Tell me something I don't know, Mr. Frelder." I spat back as I slouched down into my chair.
"Hey dude, party at mine tomorrow, you in?" My friend Zac whispered from the right of me.
"Ah I dunno dude, kinda want to make good impressions this semester." I replied.
"Oh come on Trayne, you have to. There's gonna be so many new hot chicks there." He said as he wiggled his eyebrows.
"Zac. Back to work. You don't want me to have to kick you off the football team, do you?" Mr. Freldner grumbled.
"We'll see, okay?" I replied as I looked back at my workbook.

"You find yourself a girlfriend over the break Dalton?" Asked Drew, one of my other friends.
"Nah, I kinda want to try and focus on my schoolwork, I want to really try hard to keep my grades up so I can get into med school." I reply.
"Since when did you want to study medicine?"
"Since forever."  I  said as I stuffed a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in my mouth.
"Well anyways, you can't go through senior year without at least 5 girlfriends Dalton, come on, this is common sense," Zac said. " I mean there are so many girls," he quickly glanced over my shoulder to look at a girl behind me. " I mean what about her?"
I look over my shoulder to see a girl sitting alone. Her dark hair in a messy braid trailing down her back.
"You mean Lilith Reed? Oh no way she's a weirdo. What a loner." Blurted Drew.
"Hahah true, but hey Dalt, I bet you $10 you can't make her come to my party with you tomorrow." Said Zac.
"Oh you really want to challenge me? It's on." I reply.

After school the same day I had swimming practise. I was the top of my team, and my dad wanted to keep it that way as he was a professional swimmer and he wanted me to follow in his footsteps.
I swam a few laps before stopping for a breather.

As I took a quick break I glanced to my left and noticed that the  same girl who was sitting behind me at lunch was sitting on the bleachers with a pencil and book in hand. Lilith. She glanced up at me before making eye contact and quickly looking back down. She seemed to be drawing something. I just ignored her and carried on swimming.

That night, I went on my laptop to find more about Lilith. I was intrigued.
I typed her name in the search bar, hoping for some sort of social media to pop up.
Nothing.
I scroll through the search results and see nothing but random news articles and institutes in the Middle East.
I close my laptop and look up at the ceiling, sighing while rubbing my eyes.
For some reason I just can't get her out of my head.
I grab my phone and type in a number, Marcy's number.

Marcy is a family friend I guess.
We grew up together and spent almost all of our time together. We were inseparable.
When high school came around I got popular but she didn't. We kinda just grew apart and I haven't really talked to her since middle school.

I bite my lip before pressing 'call' and watched the phone ring.
I put the phone against my ear and hear a warm voice.
"Dalton?"
"Hey Marcy."
"Wow it's been a hot minute since we've talked."
"Yea... how you been?"
"I mean, okay I guess. How you been?"
"I need your help."
"Okay wait, we haven't spoken in what, like 3 years and now suddenly you need my help? No way Dalton."
"No please Marcy it will only take a minute. I promise."
"Fine. Make it quick."
"Okay, well I kinda made a bet that by tomorrow night I couldn't make Lilith Reed come with me to Zac's party."
"You mean the one with the dark hair?"
"Yeah."
"Well, good luck cause i'm not helping you with that."
"No I don't need your help with that."
"Okay well then get to the point, why do you need my help?"
"Do you know much about her? Lilith?"
"She's weird. Really weird. I don't think she has many friends, why?"
"No reason, she's just... Intriguing. I guess."
"I used to be friends with her, she was in a few of my classes but we weren't that close and she can act pretty strange sometimes."
"Thank you, Marcy."
"Okay well I've got to go, talk to you in 3 years."

Suddenly the phone cuts off.
I put my phone back on my desk before Zac comes bounding in with a newspaper. "Dalt, did you hear about the disappearance?"
"What? Wait, when did you get here?" I questioned.
He threw the newspaper in my face before continuing. "That doesn't matter. Molly Turner from our Geology class vanished 2 days ago. Ya know, the super frickin' hot one?!"
"Wait what?"
"Here look." He said as he pointed down at an article on the newspaper.
I scan my eyes over the coffee stained newspaper and see a picture of a girl and a bold title stating 'Washington state teen goes missing from home on late Saturday afternoon'.
"Oh shit dude." I mumbled.
"She was smoking hot, hope they find her." Zac exclaimed.
"Yeah... I wonder what happened to her."
