Wolf Cave

Deep in the forest

Once long ago

A mountain had collapsed

Caused by storms and snow

The large fallen boulders

Had thereby formed

A deep dark cave

With a hard dirt floor

And one day a wolf

Was wandering around

And found the stone den

Perfect for a hound

The wolf gave a howl

Summoning his pack

And they all came through the forest

Without turning back

And so the mountain cave

Became their house

And they went out together

To hunt for grouse

They came back to the cave

And ate their prey

Then fell asleep

For the rest of the day

~*~

One spring day

When the sun was up

A wolf had given birth

To five newborn pups

The litter of pups

Could not yet see

So they stumbled and bumbled

And stepped in their pee

Two days passed

And then they could hear

Another two months

And they were hunting deer

~*~

Part of the pack

Went out one day

To try and kill

Some extra prey

But instead they came across

One of their biggest fears

A big tall creature

With weird little ears

It raised its weapon

And a loud noise rang out

And one poor wolf

Was shot in the snout

That one poor wolf

That was shot in the head

Fell to the ground

It was dead

The other wolves were scared

So they ran away

To the safety of their cave

And there they would lay

~*~

The hunter went

And told the whole town

The wolves' population

Began going down

People were hunting

Them everywhere

Until there was hardly

A wolf to spare

The people who cared

Did everything they could

But nobody stopped

Nobody would
