Emily Rudd as Lexi

20 years later...

"Mom, I don't want to go to any stupid football game!" Lexi whined.

"Oh come on! If you don't like the game then watch the people." I said calmly as I started the engine.

"That sounded really creepy mom." Lexi said in her angsty teenager way.

"Well, Aunt Tammy told me when I was your age thst I woukd meet my future husband here and j wouldn't know unless I camd. She was right. I met your father here." I said as memories flooded back.

"You ready to woo your man?" Tammy asked excitedly.

"He's not my man and I probably won't see him." I replied.

"Who said that Jake was your man?" Tammy asked happily. "Your future husband could be here tonight and you wouldn't know unless you came! You better thank me that you're even here!"

"My future husband is not here Tammy. Who even thinks that far ahead in their junior year anyway?" I asked. She'd obviously thought that far ahead though. I mentally face palmed. Why had I let her drag me into this?

Before I knew it, Tammy was literally dragging me through the crowd and up the bleachers.

I sat down immediately and pulled out a book to read. Today, it happened to be Harry Potter.

That's when I felt a foot hit my back and someone scream "NERD!"

I fell onto the ground to see a bunch of Jake's friends laughing at me.

Idiots.

I followed first impulse and punched one in the nose. Best thing I ever did.

I noticed another guy come up behind the guy I punched. I began to cower back for fear that he was going to hurt me. Instead he punched Jake's other friend his the cheek.

Both friends fell to the ground and the guy looked at me.

We locked eyes for a good 30 seconds before he spoke.

"Cool. Bye Mom." Lexi said as she hopped out of the car and walked to the football game.

I shook my head and drove home.

-------------------------

Lexi walked up to the car blushing and smiling. Her eyes were wide. A look I'd only seen once. Myself.

I smirked at her as she sat in her seat.

"What did I tell you?" I asked teasingly.

"Shut up Mom." Lexi said with a playful scowl.

The rest of the drive home was me teasing Lexi about the boy she met. And her be a little sassafrass.

"Eli!" I called when we walked in the door.

Eli came down the stairs, flashing us a smile. "My girls." H kissed us each on the head and ruffled Lexi's hair.

"Guess what. Lexi went to a football game and she met someone." I said happily yet in a motherly way.

Eli grinned at looked at Lexi expectantly.

"Okay his name's Sawyer and he's really cute." Lexi said as if she was getting some huge secret off her chest.

"You should go tell Carla at college." I said hinting thst Carla would want to know about this.

Carla is my oldest daughter who was going to UNC.

"Oh yeah!" Lexi ran eagerly upstairs to call her sister.

Eli and I chuckled watching her run off to her room.

"And that's how the story goes." Eli said jokingly.

"I guess what goes around comes around." I said agreeing with him.

We both had a silent understanding sort of. Before putting away the groceries I had gotten during the football game.
