Football Game

Hi. I'm Julia.

This is how I met my Prince Charming. No, he's not an actual prince.

I just had to lower my expectations, I suppose.

I had a crush on a football player. I know, cliche. But, I really did like him. I thought he was a good person. I'm not a popular girl though, so of course, he only had eyes for the cheerleaders and their tanned mid-sections.

His name was Jake Mikeals. He was 6'1 and had dreamy chocolate brown eyes. His raven black hair was always swept to the side.

He was the dictionary definition of hot. At least in my dictionary.

Anyway, I was a pretty rational kid. I almost never went out or drank. But of course. Like all cliches, I had a crazy, extrovert best friend. Tammy Tomas.

She is the definition of a bad influence in everyone's dictionary.

She knew about my crush and like any good best friend would do in this situation, she dragged me to a football game.

Again, pretty cliche.

"Tammy! I really don't want to do this!" I exclaimed as I attempted to pull down the crop top Tammy had forced me into.

"No. Listen Julia! If you want any guy to like you, then dress like the girls he likes." She said as she put on my makeup.

She had gone with a natural look. Nude colors and such. Of course, I don't look good wearing the neon colors that the cheerleaders wear.

My long blonde hair was done in curls with a bobby pin holding back my side bangs.

Tammy had forced me into a black crop top, army jacket, jean short shorts, and white high tops. This was the epitome of Tammy's daily outfit.

Then again, Tammy had a boyfriend so who was I to complain?

---------------------------------

"You ready to woo your man?" Tammy asked excitedly.

"He's not my man and I probably won't see him." I replied.

"Who said that Jake was your man?" Tammy asked happily. "Your future husband could be here tonight and you wouldn't know unless you came! You better thank me that you're even here!"

"My future husband is not here Tammy. Who even thinks that far ahead in their junior year anyway?" I asked. She'd obviously thought that far ahead though. I mentally face palmed. Why had I let her drag me into this?

Before I knew it, Tammy was literally dragging me through the crowd and up the bleachers.

I sat down immediately and pulled out a book to read. Today, it happened to be Harry Potter.

That's when I felt a foot hit my back and someone scream "NERD!"

I fell onto the ground to see a bunch of Jake's friends laughing at me.

Idiots.

I followed first impulse and punched one in the nose. Best thing I ever did.

I noticed another guy come up behind the guy I punched. I began to cower back for fear that he was going to hurt me. Instead he punched Jake's other friend his the cheek.

Both friends fell to the ground and the guy looked at me.

We locked eyes for a good 30 seconds before he spoke.

"Hi." He waved at me. I swooned on the inside.

"Oh, hi." I replied looking down at my bloodied fist which was just now beginning to throb.

"I'm Eli Kingsley." He said smiling at me.

"I'm Julia Fanning." I said smiling shyly back.

"Cool. See ya around Julia." Eli said as he walked off into the crowd that had somehow chosen to ignore the miniature beat down that had just happened.

I sat through the rest of the game silently. I didn't continue reading. I sat there, swooning over Eli.

Somehow, I found Eli hotter than Jake ever was.

"You okay Juls?" Tammy asked tentatively.

I nodded.

Tammy gave me a knowing grin. I wasn't ever going to hear the end of this.
