"Well, they're strange." Cleo, Rain's gorgeous Asian friend, bluntly said to her as they wandered the school hallways.

"Really?" Mason asked, rolling his piercing blue eyes, that contrasted nicely with his jet black hair. "You don't say? I figured it was perfectly normal for people to walk the streets at night and talk about vampires."

"I know!" Rain said in agreement, "It was so... Odd... But I think the weirdest part was that they actually sounded like they believed every word they were saying!"

Mason sighed. "It's sad, really. People need to get back to reality - they can't spend their whole lives in a wonderland. Sometimes it's best to be down to earth and really focus..."

Then he walked into a wall.

"Gah!" Mason yelled, clutching his nose. When he moved his hands away it seemed to have swollen.

Cleo shrugged, "Pinocchio over here has a point... Those people sounded insane to me... Maybe they wanted to escape reality - although, I don't see why they can't just buy a new car or some useless junk like all the other men going through a stupid midlife crisis."

Jut then, Cleo gasped. Her bobbed, jet black hair, suddenly flicked as she abruptly turned her head towards another group of friends, and stared at them with her almost black eyes. "Aah! Don't you think Sam and Alex would be so cute together?!" She asked, gesturing to two of the people in the huddle of friends, "I ship them so much!"

Mason blinked, "You ship them?"

Cleo nodded, as if it were obvious, "Yeah... You know... I think they should go out..."

Mason smirked, "Well, in that case, I boat them too."

Cleo's face fell, "No... That's really not how it works..."

"Oh... Should I car them instead?"

Cleo's face slowly fell, "Please, stop."

"I plane them?" Mason sniggered, he was clearly messing with her.

Cleo sighed, "Sometimes I really do wonder why I talk to you."

"Because I'm so irresistible?"

"Okay... I think I've had enough Mason time for today... I'll see you in P.E, Rain." At that, Cleo left.

The three of them had been friends for a long time, and although sometimes Cleo made it out that she couldn't stand Mason, Rain knew that wasn't so.

Rain and Mason continued to walk together, all the while Mason making sarcastic comments in her left ear... As per usual... But Rain wasn't really listening. Her eyes were fixed on a boy with strawberry blonde hair and sea green eyes, sat alone on a nearby bench as he typed away at his laptop.

August had joined the school only two weeks ago, and hadn't yet made any friends. He was the sweet, quiet type, and Rain couldn't help stating at him whenever he was nearby... She couldn't stop thinking about him, either.

"So... Whose the lucky guy?" Mason asked her, and Rain was suddenly dragged back into their conversation.

She could feel her ears burning, "What?"

Mason rolled his eyes, "Please. I may be a guy, but I still have eyes."

Rain slapped herself in the face, "Oh God. Is it that obvious?"

"You're making the same goggly eyes Cleo does whenever we have pizza... So, who is it?"

He may have known she was crushing, but he was still Mason enough not to notice how clearly it was August she liked.

"Umm... Bye!" Rain yelled, dashing away,  before Mason could put two and two together... Although it may take him a while.

"Okay, ladies," Miss Lehane said to the group of girls as they lined up, awaiting orders. "We're gonna practice our shot-put today. Cool?"

They all nodded, then the girls ran towards the heavy metal balls and attempted to throw them across the field, but only managed to get them a foot or two.

They were in their P.E class and all had dressed into matching, blue shirts and shorts. In their school, the boys and girls did P.E separately, so Mason wasn't with Rain at that moment in time... Surprisingly, Rain missed him a little. She felt like she could have done with some of his humour to lighten her mood - she absolutely hated P.E.

All the girls had run to the shot-puts, even Cleo (She said P.E was a way to get rid of the energy she built up from eating so much candy every day)... but Rain still hadn't.

"What's up, Miss Victorie?" Miss Lehane asked Rain as she stood alone, thinking.

Rain sighed, "It's just... Pointless..." Rain expected her teacher to get mad, but instead Miss Lehane simply nodded in understanding. "We're throwing this ball... And it's achieving nothing!"

Miss Lenhane continued to nod, "I thought so, too... Until one day this chick thought me that everything you do is important- you've gotta be the best you can be, you know? So, by throwing some dumb ball you're seeing what you can do... What you're capable of."

Miss Lehane then picked up a nearby shot-put and handed it to rain. "Come on, girl. Just... Give it a try."

Rain sighed and took the ball from her teacher. There was something about Miss Lehane, and it made Rain feel safe around her. It made Rain feel like she could show her teacher anything.

Even her abnormal strength.

At that, Rain threw the shot-put as hard as she could, and it flew away. Out of view.

It was physically impossible, far beyond any world record, but Miss Lehane only smiled. None of the other girls had seen - they were all facing the other direction, and Rain feared that if they had she would have been seen as an even bigger freak than she already was.

"You're not... Surprised?" Rain asked her teacher, but Miss Lehane did not reply.

Instead she, too, picked up a nearby shot-put and threw it the direction Rain had thrown hers.

It flew just as far - beyond their view.

Miss Lehane had the strength, too.

Miss Lehane had what Rain had. And she knew it.

Rain was overcome by emotions, too shocked to say anything.

Miss Lehane nudged Rain and smiled, "We'd better hope they don't land on anyone, eh?"

In return, Rain gave a confused and sheepish grin.

"Alright, then," Miss Lehane said casually to Rain, as if nothing had happened. "Back to class, Miss Victorie."

Rain smiled, "Call me Rain... Miss Victorie is so overrated."

Miss Lehane smiled back, "In that case, call me Faith."

Rain suddenly felt her face fall. Her head was spinning. "What?"

"Faith," Miss Lehane repeated. "Faith is my first name."

At that, her P.E teacher left. Leaving Rain more confused than ever...

... Because 'Faith' was the person the crazy people had been talking about, the night before.
