"Rain... Earth to rain... RAIN!" Cleo yelled, snapping her fingers in Rain's face, causing her to fall out of her 1000 yard stare.
Rain blinked, shaking her head, "Oh... Sorry..."
They had left to eat lunch straight from P.E and Rain still couldn't process what had happened - her teacher, Miss Lehane, was like her... Different...
The canteen they were sat in was next to empty, as Miss Lehane always let them out early. The two of them were nearly finished by the time they heard Mason's all too loud voice coming from nearby, "Hey guys!"
"Hey..." Rain mumbled, not looking up from her food.
There was a long silence that followed as Rain watched Cleo, sat opposite her, suddenly turn from her usual gleeful self to very confused, "Mason... Who is this and why is he here?"
Rain still hadn't looked up to see who this new person was, but didn't care really - her mind was elsewhere.
Mason smiled, "Don't worry, he's cool."
"But he's different," Cleo protested, "He is new and ruining how we work... Four is too much of a crowd."
"Just let him stay with us for a little while... Ppppllleeeaaassseeee! We started talking in P.E and I think you guys would like him!"
"Ummm, hi," Rain heard the boy say nervously.
Sh felt her face fall.
She recognised that voice all too well.
Rain felt her eyes widen and her heart stop, she was begging that it wasn't who she knew it was.
Cleo folded her arms and reluctantly gave a small wave, "Hi... I'm Cleo, and this is Rain."
"Oh, err, hi," She heard the voice say, "I'm August."
Rain literally felt her heart jump out of her chest, her face was growing a bright red. Oh no oh no oh no.
She couldn't let her friends see her like this: bright red, lost for words, not her usual self... Cleo would know almost instantly of her crush on August- maybe not so much for Mason, though.
At that, Rain stood up, her chair squeaking against the floor as she pushed it further backwards. Her hair covered her face so her friends couldn't see its unusual shade. "I just need to... Go to the bathroom..." She muttered, before scampering away.
It was all too much for her: first Faith, now this?! She needed a break.
Rain was overcome with emotions as she paced the corridors, her head spinning. She was out of it, not focusing where she was going at all.
She only realised she was about to walk into Hannah Courtney when it was too late.
By complete accident, Rain smashed against Hannah's side... By the look on Hannah's face, she was not pleased.
Hannah was far taller than Rain, it was intimidating beyond belief, but she was also extremely attractive (as much as Rain hated to admit it). Hannah had long, bleach blonde hair, with a flawless face and figure.
Hannah had been bullying Rain since they started secondary school.
... So Rain wasn't exactly earning herself any good points.
