~Chapter 4~
The morning came way too early as usual, but the day kind of zipped by. Nothing new really happened. At the end of the day I decided that I'd meet Coral in the woods and introduce her to Taylor.
I wore my hoodie and bootcut jeans because it was cold outside, which was unusual.
I lived in the panhandle of Florida, so there weren't many days like this, but when they did happen it got pretty cold.
I got Taylor dressed in her pink sweatpants and purple hoodie with a kitten on it and did her hair in two braids .
After Ms Olga's staff went to bed we snuck out. You'd think that they would have security cameras or something to keep the kids... I dunno, inside maybe? But Ms. Olga would much rather spend money on herself.
After we got outside I took Taylor down to the little stream where I washed off the other day. I waited for Coral and pretty soon she walked out of the woods onto the bank.
She blinked a couple of times at Taylor. "Who's this?" She asked not taking her eyes off of Tay for a second. Taylor shrunk back behind me.
"This is Taylor. Taylor, this is the friend I was telling you about, remember? Coral, Taylor. Taylor, Coral." Coral looked astonished, as if she had never seen a little kid before.
"Hi," Taylor said shyly. She always does that whenever she meets someone new, then she never stops talking.
"Uh, hey. Amy can I talk to you for a second, in, um, private?" Said Coral, though she still hadn't taken her eyes off of Taylor.
"Sure," I said. I bent down and looked at Taylor, "give us one minute sweetie, 'kay? Here why don't you go skip some pebbles, just don't get wet," I suggested.
"Okay! That sounds like fun!" she said then ran off towards the stream.
Coral walked over to me angrily.
"Why did you bring her here?" She asked.
"She is going to come with us," I replied.
"Are you crazy? She will only slow us down."
"Well I couldn't just leave her there! Look she won't slow us down okay, I am going to get my files tomorrow night." Coral walked away and muttered something I couldn't make out.
"Fine, do you need any help with your files? It isnt going to be too easy a second time." Coral asked.
"Um, like, how difficult are we talking here? I mean Ms. Olga can't possibly have an advanced security system, right?" I asked her uneasily.
"Well, think about it, she found you going through looking for your files, and you got away with a set. So what do you think she's gonna do to keep kids from getting at their files?" Coral said, staring at me like I was stupid, or something.
Well she's right, I thought, I mean in order to keep kids from getting their files, and leaving she'll have had to do something in order to keep 'em from sniffing around too much. I sighed.
"Alright, I'll leave the window open partially so you can get in. Then we'll go from there. See you tomorrow night."
"Okay. See you then." Coral muttered. I could tell that she was still upset about the whole Taylor thing.
"Come on Tay, you have to get some sleep. We're going to have a big day tomorrow," I said. Sure enough she came running back with at least 20 pebbles wedged into her pockets.
"Did you leave any for the stream?" I asked.
"I couldn't help it. They were all so pretty," she replied. Maybe she would slow us down. Just a little.
