The red lights danced around the room, glowing softly as Alice poured another shot of cheap tequila, laying it out in the table. She watched, pursing her lips, waiting for another customer. The bar was filled with crowds of middle aged men reeking with the smell of alcohol. She sniffed slightly but she was undisturbed and had already adjusted to the environment. Her Serpent jacket clung to her shoulders with pride and the curls bounced against the leather, the golden locks shining brightly.
However, Alice's eyes were suddenly pinned to the young man walking into the Wyrm, his face bruised and hair tousled. She could tell he had just undergone his initiation. He looked around her age, maybe older and she had seen him around the SouthSide once or twice but other than that, he was a total stranger. Older men sorrounded him, some thumping him on the back whilst he laughed. Alice could tell he was a now new Serpent and had passed as soon as he turned around, the deep emerald snake coiled on the leather. His eyes swivelled around the room then landing on her's, catching her staring in plain sight. She blushed softly he walked over, grinning and smile widened. He sat down almost instantly, right in front of her so their eyes met.
"Hey," he smirked, hunching his shoulders and directing them towards her. "I'm FP,"
She smiled back but she tried to hide it, knowing he was just another flirt. But she wasn't immune to his spell.
"Alice," she said, her teeth pearly and shining. "Now do you want tequila, it's a favourite round here,"
"I'll take it,"
She turned around, grabbing a bottled and pouring him a shot. He took one and drowned it quickly. "So what's a pretty girl like you doing behind a bar huh?"
She looked blankly for a moment. "Most Serpent women work behind the bar, it's how we roll,"
He raised his eyebrow. "You look to elegant to be any old Serpent. You sure your not from the Northside?"
"God no. I hate that place. I just go to school there,"
"Riverdale High?"
"Yeah,"
"I'm transferring next week, Fred Andrews ring a bell?"
"Fred. Yeah, he's pretty nice,"
"He's what you'd call a best friend. I've known him since I was born, literally our mom's met in the maternity ward,"
Alice laughed. "So are your families still close?"
"Me and Fred are. Our families, not so much. My mom died a couple of years ago," the two fell silent.
"I'm so sorry Fp,"
He took a deep breath. "It's ok. I've got over it slowly. My mom used to be a Serpent and well that's why I came here," he had never opened up this much to someone.
She smiled. "We look after our own. You'll be alright here,"
He gave here a warm smile in return. "Well I'm a right sob story and all but what's yours Alice? What's your 'story'?"
She laughed a little. "My dad, Rocky Smith, has been a Serpent since I don't know when but I guess I was born here. The southside. But he's got his eyes set on me getting out of this place, getting an education. He want me to be like me mom but to be honest with you I hate that woman. God she left him with me when I was 2 years old and went off with some man. Apparently she was smart, clever, cunning,"
Fp sighed. "Parents eh? The last one I've got can go to hell for all I care,"
She giggled and he chuckled with her. The two continued chatting over the bar like good friends, old Marge from across the counter yelling at Alice to serve. She ignored her of course, just flirting back and forth with Fp. He was sweet, most men were at the start but she felt something different about him when she touched his hand subconsciously in all the laughter or when the looked into eachother's eyes at random moments. She felt a connection with the man who she had met just hours ago.
They spent all night sitting on the same bar stools, tittering away. Most men started leaving and Alice soon realised it was getting late. She began yawning, tilting her head to the side whilst he fondly watched.
"I'll take you home if you like," he offered, grabbing her hand as she squeezed it slightly. She nodded sleepily slightly closing her eyes as he smirked. Fp grabbed his jacket and draped it over her shoulders, steering her out. He looked around for a little while to see where his motorbike was then looking at Alice who probably wouldn't be able to sit up on it. He shook her shoulder gently.
"I only have my motorbike with me, think you can sit up sleepyhead?" He chuckled softly as she nodded. He picked her up rather surprisingly, lifting her onto the back as she naturally placed her hands around his waist, almost cuddling onto his back. She knew this was all too friendly for a boy who she had met but she still clung on as he rode.
Her slumber soon lifted as the wind flew past her, his hair flying back in unison with hers. The starry sky twinkled and the distant pops sign could be seen by the edge of the Northside. She nuzzled her head into his shoulder as he grinned to himself almost worried she would close her eyes once again. And he was right. Looking into his mirror, he saw her head falling to on side of his shoulder, her eyelashes curled and hair carefully tucked behind her ear. She was beautiful and he smiled softly. She had made an impression on him and he had made one on her and that was all he wanted. It was all she wanted. And whatever she dreamed about that night, it certainly was the boy she had met that very day...
