Michelle had made her way down the narrow isle of the train and sat by the window in an open seat. She had made sure her music was loud enough, and that her earbuds were visible so that each stranger could take a hint and not try to make small conversation with her. Glancing up at the small countdown clock, Michelle groaned as it said that the train had seven minutes until the doors closed.
She switched the song on her ipod, looking out the window and sighing.
This was going to be a long trip.
An elderly man sat next to Michelle. She looked at all of the open seats around her, and wondered why he chose the seat next to her.
She turned her gaze back towards the window, staring at a mother outside the train as she proceeded with her failed attempts to bring her son on the train. Michelle felt the mans eyes on her, but refused to stare back until she became annoyed.
Boldly, she stared back at the mad and raised her eyebrow. Michelle pulled an earbud out of her ear and looked over to the man.
"Is there a problem?" She asked.
He opened his mouth to say something, closed it, then reopened it again. "You remind me so much of someone I used to know." He said, his voice coming out more stronger and sure than she expected.
He had a slight glint that looked like a sparkle within his green eyes, laugh lines falling beneath them and in his creases that made his eyes look as if they had a smile within them.
"Is that so?" Michelle asked, trying to sound amused.
"Yes. So vibrant and beautiful, she was." he said, the smile that touched his eyes now appearing on his thin lips.
"The doors to Augusta Depots are now closing, thank you for traveling with us today. Enjoy your ride!" The announcer said, the train beeping and the doors finally closing.
Michelle began to awkwardly put her ear bud into her ear but was caught by surprise from his question.
"Would you like to hear a story about the person you remind me of? He asked suddenly.
Her curiosity getting the best of her, she nodded and smiled half-heartedly "We have nothing but time." She sarcastically stated.
He clasped his hands his hands together, overjoyed and looked ahead; almost as if he got caught in a daze and had to mentally take himself back to whatever the time was then to prepare his story. "Oh it was more than beyond two decades ago when I met her.."
