Chapter 3: Noises

I woke up to a strange buzzing sound coming from somewhere inside the shop. Joshua was still asleep; he had laid down some T-shirts as pillows and blankets. I wouldn’t say I slept well, but under the current circumstances, I slept alright. As I looked around for the source of the buzzing noise, I spotted an old radio behind the counter. It appeared to be on, but the noise coming from it did not sound like white noise or static. Suddenly, all the thoughts in my head started swirling around and slowly disappearing. The only thought left was the simple word, “Kill”

Out of confusion, I stumbled back and tripped over Joshua, waking him up. Darkness filled my eyes as I gasped for breath, but I refused to pass out. My head was pounding and I couldn’t think about anything else except for that one word. I was going in and out of consciousness until I felt a slap as my cheek started to burn. I opened my eyes to see Joshua, but my mind still said “kill”, so I mustered all my strength and spat out a few words, “Turn…off…the….radio….” I hadn’t even realized he was holding me up because as soon as he leaped towards the radio to shut it off, I fell to the ground.
