"Are you sure I look okay? I mean, I won't stick out like a sore thumb, right?" I worriedly looked up at Summer as she pulled a t-shirt out from a plastic bag.
She held up the shirt and laughed, "It's a Mets jersey. How on earth are you going to stick out in this at a Mets game. Calm down."
Today was the baseball game with those other guys, and to be quite honest, I was a little nervous. It was probably really obvious to Liam that day he asked me that I don't know anything about the sport. Of course I don't know anything, but I didn't want to go to this game completely clueless. I have no idea what to expect or what I should know or anything else.
I think Summer had sensed my apprehension in the way I would text her about the game pretty much 24/7, so she told me to come over before I left. She surprised me with this Mets jersey, saying it should help with the nervousness of not fitting in. Maybe it will help me blend in, but my lack of knowledge about anything baseball related will pull me out of the crowd.
The jersey was actually really comfy to wear and not itchy like I had thought it would be. It was white with the blue lettering of the team's name and a number 5 printed on the back. I left the buttons undone as I still had my white shirt underneath. I looked over at Summer as she was ripping the tag off the side.
"Who's number 5?"
"David Wright," she smiled, fixing the sleeve of the jersey. "He's an infielder. Really cute, too."
"What's an infielder?"
"Means he plays on the inner part of the field, near the bases and stuff. He's a third baseman."
"This shit is so confusing. There's so much to know."
Summer laughed as her hand was placed on my shoulder, "Harry, you don't need to know anything about the sport. Seriously. Cheer when Liam cheers. He'll be the only one actually watching the game. And you can ask him questions about the game because he'll be more than willing to tell you. He gets excited when someone asks him about sports, anyways. It makes him feel smart or something, I don't know."
As she walked into the kitchen to throw the trash away, I followed closely behind, "So what are you doing for the day?"
"Birthday planning and shopping, hopefully. I have to do some quick last minute adjustments and get something to wear."
"Don't you have a bunch of dresses and things that you could choose from?"
"Well yeah, but it's my birthday. I have to have a completely new outfit. It's like girl code or something."
"You girls are weird with your clothes."
She pointed at me and raised an eyebrow, "So are you guys. You own like thirty of the same shirts and never change your jeans."
"These are new jeans, actually!" I mocked being offended before I started to laugh. "I was supposed to save these for your birthday party because Isabella wanted me to wear nice, new clothes. But I like them too much to not wear them."
"Okay, so now you have two pairs of jeans," she teased, hopping up to sit on the kitchen counter.
I walked over and stepped in front of her, her legs wrapping around my waist and arms around my neck, "Hey, I have more clothes than that. I have like four jeans, okay?"
"Whatever you say, big guy," she laughed as she pressed her lips onto mine.
I pulled back from the kiss as I licked my bottom lip, "You taste like cherry."
"I had a popsicle before you came over. You want one?"
"Yes, please."
She started giggling as she gave me another kiss, jumping down from the counter and walking towards the freezer. I followed her and took the popsicle from her hand when she offered it up to me.
