He knew he was slightly drunk. He knew he was wrong for being so angry with Maya. He just wanted to make himself believe that Maya could be Jeyne. Maya isn't Jeyne. That doesn't mean she's any less of a woman though. She doesn't have to beautiful like Jeyne, she can be beautiful on her own.
His lady mother seemed absolutely startled when Robb had knocked on her door at such an ungodly hour. "Robb?" she asked as she wiped her tired eyes. "What are you doing here so late? Is something wrong? Are you okay? Is Maya okay?" Catelyn Stark asked quickly with fear in her voice. Robb's mother had became more of a worrier during the time Ned Stark was held prisoner and Robb had started war to get him back. Though when she heard of Winterfell being captured by Ironborn men, she became a complete and utter mess until Bolton men reclaimed it for the Starks and assured Lady Catelyn that her boys were alive and well. Robb still remembered how she could barely get out of bed.
" I'm fine, I just came to talk." Robb responded, hoping his mother didn't notice how he dismissed her worry for Maya. "Of what? Have you not a wife in your bed to speak to?" Lady Catelyn's tone changed.
"That's what I meant to talk to you about." Robb said. "Well?" Lady Catelyn asked.
"We had a bit of a quarrel, and I'm afraid I was far too cold with her." Robb spoke as his eyes wandered to his feet, a habit he had since he was a boy and had done something he was ashamed of.
"I see," Catelyn spoke. "What was it exactly that you two quarreled over?"
Robb's heart pounded in his chest. He had never raised his voice with his mother, but the way she seemed to be so naive to the situation angered him to no end. She put Maya up to this. She told her the part she needed to play, and now she acts ignorant to it.
"Did you tell Maya to lead me on? Did you tell her to bait me?" Robb spat out.
"No, of course not. Robb, I only told her you needed an heir, that's all." Catelyn assured him.
"So you told her to fuck me! That's what you told her!" Robb yelled out angrily.
"It was never like that, I swear it by the Old Gods and the New." she persisted once again.
"Then what did you mean? Hmm?" Robb asked, his temper still flaring slightly.
"I am your mother,Robb! You would do well not to speak to me in that tone, or to use such profane language in my presence!" Catelyn shouted back.
Robb instantly felt a lot smaller after Catelyn had retaliated against him. "Why would you tell her she must bed me? Why did you make her feel that she had no choice?"
"Robb, I assure you that was never my intention. I merely suggested that the two of you...well...make an heir. You're in war, who knows if you'll make it out alive? Gods forbid anything happen to you, but if that's the case, you will need an heir. One that Maya births, not a bastard on Jeyne Westerling or any other woman." Catelyn spoke softly.
Robb had no response, only a pang of guilt towards his actions against Maya. He retired to their chambers that night. While he situated himself in the furs he had thrown on the floor to sleep on, he could hear Maya's sniffles. Not for the first time has she been crying over me. He realized.
