astrid nelson
i sharply turned into the school parking lot, making aubree and kevin slide in their seats.
"jesus astrid, can you slow down." aubree complained as she rolled her eyes and laughed a bit.
"you guys act like i'm the worst driver ever but we all just forget that time kevin ran into a little kid." i laughed, thinking about the accident that could have been tragic.
"it's not my fault the dumbass kid ran into the middle of the road!" kevin yelled, putting his hands up in defense.
"plus, she's right astrid, you are psycho when it comes to driving." he continued.
i pulled the keys out of the ignition and glared at the two of them, making us all laugh.
we hopped out of my convertible and chatted as we made our way to the front doors.
"there's a new kid apparently, just moved here from like Hollywood or something." Kevin informed us as we stopped at our lockers that were so luckily placed next to eachother.
"why would anyone want to move from Hollywood to Long Valley, this place sucks." aubree questioned.
"i have no idea, i just heard the football team talking about it, i guess he's gonna try out for the team." he shrugged, closing his locker and leaning against it to talk to us.
"and why do we care if he's moving in?" i asked, lifting up an eyebrow.
"maybe we could invite him to be apart of our group, it'd be nice to have another guy around." kevin laughed slightly.
"oh please, kev. last time someone tried to join our friend group, you gave him two black eyes and a needed nose job." aubree smirked.
"hey, that kid was hitting on astrid, and he was a freak." kevin laughed.
"whatever, guys never even hit on me, you're just too protective." i joined in on the conversation.
"all we're trying to say kev is that our group is pretty exclusive and like everyone knows. nobody even tries to be our friends anymore." aubree stated.
"hey astrid!" a guy from behind me speaks.
i turn around to see a random tall kid with curly blonde hair, rubbing the back of his neck and smiling like a freak.
"do i know you?" i asked, cocking up my eyebrow.
"well we are in Eng-" the nervous boy starts talking but is cut off by kevin.
"get lost loser." he laughed, pushing the boy's chest slightly.
the boy scurried away, knowing he wouldn't stand a chance against kevin's tall and muscular figure.
"this is what we mean, you have so many hoes." aubree laughed as we all walked down the hallway to get to class.

[lunch]

"no way that's the new kid. fuck, astrid look!" aubree squealed as she hit my arm and pointed to something.
i tilted my head up from the bag of chips i was eating and saw a boy with dark brown hair with a purple streak in the front.
i dropped my bag of chips onto the table as i looked in awe.
the kid wandered over to the lunch line awkwardly, obviously not having any friends.
"i think you got a little drool." kevin teased.
i hit his shoulder and laughed as aubree was still watching him.
"kevin you idiot, go invite him over here!" aubree motioned for kevin to get up and talk to the boy.
"i hate you guys." he sighed as he got up and started walking toward the new kid.
as soon as kevin was out of hearing distance, aubree and i looked at eachother in a challenging way.
"dibs!" we both screamed at the same time.
"astrid! give him to me! you can have any guy in school you want!" she whined.
i sighed in defeat, nodding and letting her take a win.
kevin waited in line with the guy and eventually they started making their way over here.
out of the corner of my eye i could see lots of other table watching in awe as an outsider entered the holy trinity's territory.

in sixth grade, aubree, kevin and i met. this was when aubree got bullied because of how she looked.
i remember i caught someone laughing at her so i went up and punched them. my mother used to tell me to always stick up for people no matter the cost. the cost for that bitch suzy altars was a broken lip and a big bruise on her jaw.
later, kevin, who was just starting to get strong saw a boy pushing her so he beat that kid up.
i guess his mom told him the same thing.
ever since then we were best friends and always stuck up for eachother.
in 9th grade, when nobody could even go near aubree because kevin and i were protecting her, people at school started calling us the "holy trinity", and ever since then everyone knows us as such.

"ethan this is aubree and astrid." kevin introduced us to the kid and sat down, ethan shortly following.
i gave a short smile and looked over at aubree, who was twirling her hair around her finger and smiling nervously.
i stomped on her foot, causing her to snap out of the trance and talk.
"h-hi i'm aubree." she introduced herself, stuttering and blushing.
the kid called ethan laughed at her manner and then looked over at me.
"so you moved from Hollywood huh?" i asked, wanting to get to know him.
"yeah, my dad's a brain surgeon and got transferred here or something." he replied casually as he opened his bag of chips.
"seriously? to Long Valley? that sucks man." kevin laughed.
"what's so bad about it." ethan questioned.
"it's only the most boring place ever." aubree said in a 'duh' like tone after regaining her confidence.
"there's seriously nothing to do here." kevin added to aubree's statement.
i noticed at this point that the kid had been staring at me and not even looking at anyone else as they talked.
everytime i looked up at him and made eye contact, i shot my eyes away, not wanting it to be awkward.
"is that so? well, i'm sure i'll have plenty of things to do here." he replied, still not taking his eyes off me.
as i looked up i caught him giving me the slightest smirk, making my face flush and causing me to get up from the table and excuse myself to the bathroom.
i told aubree he would be all hers, and if i'm not making any moves, i'm not doing anything wrong.
right?
