Maisie stared down at the egg intently. She thought she heard a crack, and she could've sworn she saw it move. Dr. Henry Wu spent months preparing for this moment; right now, the scientist was across the room, checking on some other experiments.
Maisie's grandfather was planning on using this particular dinosaur as a weapon. It would be the first of many, replacing human soldiers and therefore sparing lives. At least...that was how it was SUPPOSED to go. There was no straight fire guarantee such a thing would work, but false confidence was better than growing misery.
The egg shook. A long, black forearm shot out, temporarily startling Maisey. The little creature pawed away the shell from its face, staring up at her with its blood-red eyes. A gold stripe ran down from neck to tail, and it emitted a soft purring noise, crawling out of the egg completely. It had a spiked hairdo, jagged teeth, and the long sickle claw Velociraptors often had.
Only this was about a thousand times worse than any raptor ever born on Nublar. Maisie may have been a young girl, but she knew one day this dinosaur would grow to be a medium-sized killing machine with an insatiable lust for senseless violence.
Yet...it continued staring right into her eyes, filling her with a sense of terrified curiosity. Wu peeked over her shoulder, smiling. "Looks like he's ready. The third hybrid I've ever created, first male of the three. The Indoraptor. Time to tell Lockwood his weapon's here."
The scientist left Maisie with the Indoraptor, which on his part was a very idiotic move. The girl watched as the animal explored its lab-themed environment. Then it stood up, placing his paws on the glass, examining her. Maisie was a little uncomfortable with this "thing", but part of her was very intrigued by him.
The girl glanced around, secretly hoping nobody was around. Then she opened up the top of the incubator. Warm air came from inside. Maisie nervously reached down and pet the Indoraptor. It looked surprised, then squeaked and nuzzled her hand. The dinosaur tried to climb on her arm, but she shook her head. "No..." Maisie gently told him. The Indoraptor sat down, wagging its tail.
Maisie closed the incubator back up and walked out of the room. From that point on, she only interacted with the dinosaur on occasion. As it grew, however, she became more fearful and started avoiding him altogether. Time went on. The Indoraptor was abused on a constant basis by its handlers and received scars. The humans thought they were toughening him up by doing so, but it made the hybrid felt rage building up more and more deep inside.
The Indoraptor was named Ripper. He never forgot about the girl, though he suspected she forgot about him. But now tonight he would finally make his escape. He had planned it all out carefully, and had built up both rage and muscle to pull it off. It had to work.
Most importantly, Ripper couldn't leave the manor without Maisie.
