Chapter Seven:

There are not many things I regret doing in my life, but never have I felt so much regret as to signing up for the Competition. If I had never done this, then Kijani’s life would never have been in danger. I may not know what love felt like now, but back before the spell overtook me I had felt a love for Kai in the family sense. He was the closest person I had to me since my mother had died and my father became overtaken by the spell.

I really hate you right now. I communicated to Gold narrowing my eyes.

You need to protect him. Gold insisted. Without a Prince the kingdom will crumble.

I hate how logical you can be. I groaned.

Gold laughed. You are very amusing, Castoria.

Are you trying to get yourself killed? I asked. Because if you keep this up that is exactly what is coming to you.

That is—Gold said. If you make it out.

There was silence before we both started laughing softly.

Good jest. I said before calling out to the upcoming group.

“You are in pursuit?” I questioned.

“Not at the moment.” Kai said his face splitting into a grin.

“Nice to see you are still alive.” I said with my voice void of emotion.

“Castoria,” Kai said laughing. “Warm as always.”

“What else would you expect?” I asked cocking an eyebrow.

Instead of waiting for an answer I turned to Kijani’s companions.

            “And you are?” I asked.

“I am Silvia.” The silver haired one said.

            “A fairy.” I spat.

What in Tahldeth’s name is Kijani doing with a fairy? I yelled to Gold. She won’t last a half an hour!

I’m not actually sure he knows what he should be doing. Gold explained. Kai may be smart but he doesn’t have the survivor’s will that you do. Be patient.

I am many things. I said. But patient has never been one of my well-known attributes.

“And who are you?” I asked turning my silver-blue eyes toward the remaining being.

“A dragon rider.” He said shifting. “I go by the name of Raven.”

Raven had black hair and black eyes. By the looks of it, he was new to the experience of battle.

            “A criminal.” I said.

He shifted again not looking into my eyes proving my point. But then again—most would never dare to look into my silver eyes. I suppose they thought I would kill them if they did.

“Toria, we are a team—.” Kijani pleaded.

“Until I kill them.” I said cutting him off.
