The soothing aroma of chocolaty cookies was the first thing Jimin was met with when he entered his house, and he couldn't help but cringe. He knew what cookies meant, it was his mother's signature move.
New neighbors. He never understood why, but his mother always felt the need to give out cookies when she met new people.
"Jimin, dear? Is that you?"
He wanted to roll his eyes, give a sarcastic comment and lock himself in his room. He desperately wanted that.
But he knew being rude was absolutely impossible for him. The boy simply didn't have a mean bone in his body.
"Yes, mama, I'm home." he sighed deeply, knowing his mother would force him into some sort of social situation.
He made sure to walk as slowly as possible on his way to the kitchen, gaining slight courage with each step. When he finally entered the kitchen, he was glad he did.
The sight in front of him brought a bright smile to his face.
His mother, tongue poking out in concentration as she decorated each individual cookie. Her pale blue apron with beautiful ruffles all around was one Jimin had bought her for mothers day 2 years earlier. The counter tops were covered in flour, egg shells and yolk, milk, a few chocolate chips were scattered, and even a dash of frosting here and there.
She was really going all out.
"I missed you so much, my sweet Jiminie." She cooed and pulled the boy into a large warm hug, failing to notice that the frosting on her fingers and flour on her apron were ruining his school uniform.
"Mommmmmmm", Jimin whined in fake exasperation, "I literally saw you just this morning."
"But that was years ago!"
"6 hours, mom, I've been gone for 6 hours."
The lady pouted as she pulled away from the hug, "stop being such a wise ass."
The quip remark was enough to break Jimin's attitude as he laughed loudly, throwing his head back slightly and clapping his hands.
"6 hours is far too long for a mother to be away from her baby." It came out in soft mumbles, but Jimin still heard it clearly.
"I'm 16, mom, I'm not a baby anymore."
"I know you aren't it's just that," her eyes dropped and she sighed lightly, "you're all I have left in this world."
A thick, and heavy silence overcame the room.
"And I know that I'm all you have, but you're still so young, Jimin, I want you to live your life surrounded by loving and caring people. I don't want you to end up lonely like me. So even though I know you'll hate it, it's your job to bring these cookies to the new neighbors. They have a son around your age and from the few times we've talked he seems very sweet."
