I wake up still huddled against Kurai. His body producing clouds of shadows that wash over me. They felt like cooled blankets, but not like ice cold, more like how the air feels just after a rain shower. Light and brisk but nice at the same time. I look at his face. It's twisted in pain but there is a certain peace to it. I lift my head to meet his and kiss his eyelid.
"Wake up my pet."
His eyes slowly start to open. As soon as his eyelids part, the shadows that are cast over me fly back into his back. In a certain perspective they kind of look like wings. They disappear into his shoulder blades too, enforcing the idea of them being wings. I look at his eyes again. The black eye walls inviting me to explore the darkness within him. His irises shining like freshly polished rubies. He sits up, turning to the window at the side of the bed, and buries his head in his hands. I crawl up and hug him from behind, pressing my chest against his back.
"Did you have a bad dream?"
He sighs and looks out the window in front of us.
"That's just it," he says. "I didn't dream at all. It's been like this since I first woke up in the middle of town."
"Well how about I make you some breakfast to cheer you up?"
"That sounds nice. I'd like that."
We get up and walk to the kitchen together. He heads to the living room and buries his head in his hands again. I end up making us omelettes with rice and bacon. After we've eaten I stand and look back at him.
"I'm going to take a bath. Care to join me?"
"No, I've got to check on something."
In my head I say, "Next time maybe," and head to the bathroom. I walk through the bathroom door and close it behind me, however not locking it just in case Kurai changes his mind. I strip down and walk to the shower. I get the water going but instead of making it hot like other people. I like my water kinda cool. I guess that's why I always loved the rain and why I didn't mind Kurai's shadow wings. I decide to make my shower a bath instead. When the water gets high enough to my liking I turn off the faucet. I crawl in and sigh in relief. Out of habit I close the curtain. I almost immediately regret it. Kurai walks in just then but doesn't try to make a move. Sad day. He instead pays no attention to the closed curtain and puts a pile of something on the sink counter.
"They're clothes for you. I don't know if they'll fit but I think they're close enough."
He leaves the room and closes the door behind him.
"(Sigh)Man I knew I should've left the curtain open."
After I was done I left the water and let it drain. I walk over to the clothes on the counter. It looks like a school uniform of some kind. It really cute though. It's a light purple shirt with a red tie and a purple skirt. The skirt is kinda short but I don't mind. I put on the shirt first and find that it is a little snug. I put the skirt on next, it fits perfectly. I look in the mirror before walking out the bathroom door. I hope Kurai likes it. I twirl and the skirt barely stays low enough to cover my undergarments. I open the door and head to the living room. When I get there I find Kurai talking with my toy with a notebook in front of his face. He looks up at me.
"We need to talk about something before we get to playing with your toy."
"What about?"
"Well. You see he has made a request."
"What kind of request?"
Kurai holds up the notebook, "He wants us to send these letters to the designated people."
