He walked in and sunk into the kitchen chair. His Dad walked in so he got up and started his usual rambling about the school day, when his Dad exclaimed "Your nails are done!". The boy recently came (was pushed) out of the closet to his Dad. He hadn't exactly said he was trans but the boy's silence was all the verification his father needed. The boy didn't think anything of his Dad's comment, he was the type to notice that stuff. So he replied "Yeah, Emiko did them in 8th," and started on his story about his math teacher. He followed his Dad while telling the story and when they got to the laundry room, his Dad exclaimed with more excitement than before "You're not wearing your little bra thing! (he had meant binder), ok!". He smiled at the boy with excitement. The cogs in his head started to turn, he understood why his dad was excited. No, no, no. Those are just too coincidences, two completely unrelated coincidences. This was not a SIGN. This was NOT a thing! His father had gathered that the boy was "over this trans thing" from his nails. From his nails!!! And there was nothing he could do about it.
