Dinner with my family

We all sit in silence during dinner. I keep earning evil glares from my mother. I try to keep my head down. My dad looks like he swallowed a bitter gourd. He does not like silence.

"There is a new boy in our school, Diana. He is very good at sports. His dad, mom and he came to see our school. The coach introduced him to the team" says John, breaking the silence.

"Why are you telling me about this new guy?" I ask skeptically.

"He is in your class. His parents asked me whether I could show him around. I told them about you as you both are in the same class."

Catherine starts excitedly, "A boy! OMG! What's his name? What does he look like? Does he have a long nose or a short nose? Does he have green or blue eyes? Can I have his number?"

I glare at her. I don't want my sister stalking a dude from my class. "So Max what is his name?"

"Aiden Harper."

"Aiden, you mean my old friend? I thought he and his family migrated to Paris!" He was my best friend when we were young. He was very outgoing, funny and smart.

"Enough of all this boy talk!" my mom yells suddenly. "Catherine how dare you ask a boy's number? Give me your phone! You're grounded for a week! Off to bed! All of you!"

I pick up all the plates and put it in the dishwasher while everyone runs to their respective rooms. My mom takes out the laundry and puts it out to dry. I keep the plates in the stand and prepare to go to bed.

My mother pulls me back, her kind green eyes focused on mine. "I know you used to like him, honey. But don't let it get too....awkward."

"Yes ma'am" I say jokingly and go up to my room. As I lie in bed, I wonder what the world has in store for me tomorrow.
