Marlene and I walk up the stairs to our class. I tell her about Aiden and how nervous I feel. I am bouncing on the balls of my feet because of nervousness.
"Marlene can you help me showing him around the school? I am meeting him after five years. I have no idea how he will react."
Marlene has been my friend since I was in fourth grade. She has been the greatest support after my family. Marlene stops and focuses her golden eyes on me. She grabs me by my shoulders and shakes me.
"Girl, are you out of your mind? I have been with you for the past four years. I know your feelings more than anyone else. I know that you're hiding something from me. So, Spill. It. Out!"
"Ok Marlene. I'll tell you. First, quit shaking me!" She frees my shoulders and looks me in the eye. I continue, "See when I was small, I used to like him. Things got awkward when he was leaving. I started crying and hugged him so tight that he couldn't breathe. John had to pull me away from him."
"Riley, I'm with you no matter what. If this all had happened, we need to start anew. So, chill out and let's get to class. We don't need Miss Marie ripping our heads off."
The bell rings at the exact same moment. We run back to our class just as Miss Marie comes out of the staff room. I grab my place and take my books before she enters.
"Everyone SILENCE!" she yells at the top of her lungs. Everyone quiets down and she proceeds. "We have a new classmate today, please come in. No need to be shy, dear." She says her voice softer than I have ever heard before.
At that moment, a tall blonde with green eyes came in. He wore a charming smile as he entered. I felt like I was seeing him for the first time. I heard few gasps from the girls in my class. Some even swooned.
He stood in front of the class next to Miss Marie. He even waved. Miss Marie said, "Dear why don't you introduce yourself?"
Wow. Even my own teacher seems flattered by a high school student. She kept smiling at him.
He looked around the class nervously. He took a deep breath and spoke with confidently.
"Good morning. My name is Aiden Harper. I have migrated from Paris to America to continue my education. I love sports, reading, music and I play the keyboard. I also speak bit of French."
The whole class applauded. "Aiden, do you want a tour around the school during recess? Do you want me ask John the football team captain to show you around as you are in the same team?" she asks.
"Yes ma'am. I would love to have a tour of the school. John told me to meet up with Diana, his sister. He said that she was in my class. She was my old friend till I moved out of New York."
"Diana, is that true? Do you know this young gentleman?" my teacher asks. Aiden looks at me with childish grin. I meet his eyes and wave stupidly.
"Yes ma'am. John told me that Aiden was coming and asked me to show him around the school." I say urging my mouth to move.
Aiden smiles at me. I smile back. I wait till the bell rings. He sits behind me with Nathan.
The periods drag on forever. The bell rings for recess. My job as a tour guide starts now.
