I sat in class and tapped my pen on my leg, hardly being able to sit there one more minute. I was so ready to get out of school and start my beautiful summer. Going to the beach, hanging out with friends, and enjoying the sun. Everyone was on the edge of their seats and started yelling, "5, 4, 3, 2, 1..." and then the bell started ringing.
I walked outside and decided to just go home instead of hang out with friends today. I was really tired and the sun was making my skin crawl. That didn't usually happen, but I knew all I wanted was to get inside for now. Stay in the air conditioning and go to sleep for a little while. I had stayed up night after night studying for exams, and I just need sleep. Everyone will understand.
I walked up to my door and had an aching pain in my head. It was like a sudden migrane. I set my head against the door and dropped my keys, my hands were going numb. My legs started shaking and I felt like cement poured over my body, but if I moved, I might break. My heart started pounding and my skin was burning.
As the numbness in my hands started fading, I leaned down to grab the key and opened the door, still using it to hold me up, and fell inside. I slid up some and shut the door with my foot. I knew I couldn't stand up alone. I wanted to scream in pain for the migrane in my head, but the sound wouldn't come out. But who would hear me? No one was home.
After a few minutes, the numbness went out of my legs and my migrane turned into a small headache. I stood up slowly, feeling a little drowsy. I made my way to the couch and laid down and fell asleep.
I woke up in the morning still on the couch. My brother was cooking breakfast in the kitchen so I walked in there. "Good morning, sister." He said as I sat at the bar. I smiled slightly, trying to decide if I should tell him about my body's episode yesterday. Those types of things have happened before, but not as bad as yesterday. "Hungry?" he asked holding a plate in my face. "Not really.." I said. He nodded and took it for himself.
"So, what are your plans today, Blaze?" He asked me while stuffing his mouth with toast. I didn't really think about it myself, to be honest. "I'm not sure, what are you doing today?" I asked him. He took a minute to swallow before answering, what a polite boy my brother is. "I'm going out around two to run some errands and then going to pick up some friends at four, and then we're hitting a party tonight. I need to know what you're doing so I know if I have to be home before morning." He said, sounding annoyed while saying the last sentence.
"No, I'll be fine. I'll probably go to lunch with Daniel, and then we'll probably hang out for a while." I said, assuming my best friend wouldn't be out with other friends. My brother nodded. "Okay, I'll be home tomorrow morning. You can stay at Daniel's. I have to get a shower and get ready." He said, practically throwing his dishes in the sink and running over to kiss my head. "Love you." Then he ran up the stairs.
I went to my bedroom and looked in my closet for some clothes. I had a lot to wear, but nothing was appealing to me today. I picked a fading light to dark blue shirt with black skinny jeans and light blue vans. I didn't feel like myself. I had a slight aching in my chest and a dull headache still. My eyes were more sensitive to the light than usual, but I ignored it. That was easier than trying to come up with an explaination.
I walked to my bathroom and my bright blue eyes met the ones in the reflection of my mirror. My curls laid perfectly over my shoulders and stopped at mid-stomach. I had smooth pale skin, I've never really been able to tan, my skin usually burned. I wasn't bright white, but I was white enough for living in Cali all my life.
I dialed Daniel's number and called him. He didn't prefer texting much, so we almost always talked on the phone.
"Good morning, my beautiful Blaze. How's my best friend doing?" He answered in his regular happy tone. I could literally hear his smile. "I'm wonderful. Do you want to hang out today?" I asked.
"Of course I would!" He exclaimed excitedly. "We can go to lunch, then do whatever we want afterwards! Pack a bag and you can stay the night." He said, practically reading my mind. I smiled slightly. "Of course. Pick me up in 20?" I asked. "Not a second later, see ya then!" We hung up.
In twenty minutes, I heard a knocking at the door which was obviously Daniel. He was dressed excellent, as usual. He was wearing a green tank top and black, what looked to be, skinny jeans and black converse. His dark, almost black, brown hair was styled perfectly, again, as usual. He typically wore a snapback or beanie, and both of them suited him quite well. He was fit, but not too fit. He was very good looking, no doubt, but he's my best friend and I've never thought of him as more than that.
"Not a second later." He said with a smile, repeating himself from earlier. I just smiled and we walked to his car. He opened the door for me and walked back to his side. Car rides with him are never boring, we always sang loudly and talked and laughed, this time was of course no different. He was really fun to be around, he never failed to take my mind off whatever I was worried about, and that's one of the reasons he's my best friend.
