You Do This To Yourself

You do this to yourself.
Every time you feel a glimmer of hope
your mind casts shadows to weigh them down,
Crushing the light that may have saved you.
You did this to yourself.

You do this to yourself.
You use your darkness as a shield against those around you
If you reached out you could be saved
But the shadow over your shoulder is determined to keep you silent
So silent you stay
You stay so silent no one ever hears you scream
You did this to yourself.

You do this to yourself.
You let yourself wither away into a quivering child
The walls you build are facades to those around you
You seem strong but only you can see the cracks in the stone
One day you know it will crumble and reveal what you really are
You did this to yourself.

You do this to yourself.
I scream this as loud as I can
My tear stained face stares back at me from the mirror
I dig my nails into my sides and sob
The thoughts well so heavy inside me that it's torturous.
I did this to myself.
