Summer's POV
I sighed as I flipped through channels, not really interested in anything on TV. I turned it off and walked over to the window seat, sitting down and curling my legs up. I looked at my wrist and sighed, seeing the all too familiar faint nothingness where my happy ending should be.

Wow, that sounded a lot more like a sappy romance novel than I meant it to. What I meant was, my soulmate tattoo - everyone has one, because everyone has a soulmate - it's faint. It's so annoyingly faint that I almost want to scratch it off. Don't get me wrong, I want a soulmate. I desperately want to find my soulmate. But this has been here for two years now, ever since I turned 17. This little indicator that they're out there somewhere, my supposed true love, but not anywhere within reach. At first I hoped it would grow darker as I went about my life but....nothing. Ugh! This is so unfair. Almost everyone I know has already found their soulmate, or at least has a clue of what their tattoo is going to be. I can't even tell. It's just a blur. Why?? Why do I have to be the one that's stuck by myself? At this rate I'm going to end up alone forever. This is not fair. Absolutely ridiculous. Totally and utterly-

"SUMMER!" I snapped out of my thoughts, practically jumping in the air.

"Ellie! Don't do that!" I whined as I frowned at my roommate.

"Hey it's not my fault you were trapped in that head of yours! Now come on, I brought us cinnamon rolls!!" Ellie smiled and pulled me out of the window seat, dragging me over to our kitchen table and shoving me towards a chair.

"Geeze...." I sat down, laughing, "So pushy."

"Sorry Zigs, I'm just excited!!"

"That excited for cinnamon rolls?"

"Well duh!!! They're gluten free!! And two double chocolate mochas," Ellie beamed as she produced the coffee cups.

"Ellie!! My savior!" I squealed as I grabbed mine and pulled the plate with my cinnamon roll on it towards me. "How would I ever survive without you??" I mumbled through bites as I started scarfing down the meal.

"Umm....you wouldn't. Duh." She laughed as she joined me in my feast.

Elliott Waters has been my best friend for two years now, ever since freshman move in day at UCLA. We were roommates, and we clicked almost instantly. Our first night, I was so nervous about making friends at orientation I couldn't stop pacing around our room (A mighty task, considering there wasn't more than 5 feet of open space). She laughed, and commented on how if I were a pencil, I would be making zigzags all over the canvas that was our floor. She's an art major, you see. So basically she jokingly started calling me Ms. Zigs-A-Lot, which eventually just shortened to Zigs, which has stuck ever since. I knew I liked her from the moment she joked me out of my nervous freak out. So far, she's been the only person who really knows how to pull me out of an anxiety attack.

Wow.

That uh.....got more personal than I intended it to.

Oh well.

Where was I?

Oh, right. Elliott and I both just finished our sophomore year of college at UCLA. We managed to find a decently sized apartment for the summer and next year, and her parents both are rich enough to pay the difference so we can rent the place, and willing to put up whatever they can to keep her busy and out of the house, and my parents, well...they're in the middle of a divorce. So neither of us really felt up to going home for the summer. Oh! And I'm a theatre major.

"Zigs?"

I looked up to see Elliott in the middle of a bite of cinnamon roll, giving me a weird look.

"What?"

"You like...spaced out. You stopped eating your cinnamon roll. You good?"

"Yeah! Sorry, got distracted thinking." We both laughed and finished our breakfasts. "So, what's on the agenda for today?" I asked, standing up to go do my dishes.

"Job hunting," She replied casually. CASUALLY. HOW CAN SOMEONE BE SO CASUAL- sorry.

"Ughhhh, do we have to??" I whined, giving Ellie my best puppy dog impression.

She smiled, and shook her head at me, "Yes, we need to make some money this summer, so we can keep doing things like classes and voice lessons. So go put on something that screams 'HIRE ME!'"

"What's wrong with my onesie??" I fake pouted, dramatically crossing my arms.

Ellie rolled her eyes and laughed, and pointed towards my room, "Summer!! Go!"

"Fiiiine. But there better be ice cream later." I got up and slumped over to my room to get dressed.

After I put something Ellie deemed job hunting worthy, we headed out and towards the bus station, getting on the bus to head into Los Angeles.

"All right. So we've already sent in applications to two Starbuckses, and that cute little gluten free cafe." Elliot said, looking at the map on the bus.

"Ooo! That's right! I so want to work at that place."

"I know! So guess where we both have interviews in half an hour?"

"Ellie. Tell me you're joking."

She smiled proudly, "No can do, Zigs, you've got to be prepared!"

I practically squealed I was so excited. "El!!! You're the best!!"

"Thank you, thank you," Ellie said with a dramatic hair flip. "Let's go get ourselves some jobs!"
