Chapter 9

(Still November 4th)

As I awoke my mind went into some sort of internal convulsion. What was I doing at the hospital? Was I dreaming this? I lifted my arms to rub my eyes but slowly realized I was hooked up to an intervenes.

“Mum!” I called, my voice shaking. Why was I here? What had happened? I had no recollection of anything.

Two nurses came rushing into the room, begging me to tell them what was wrong. I just stared at their worried faces. No. This couldn’t be happening. No. This was the end. If did an examination, they would surely find I had some sort of illness. Or would they? I really had no idea. The last time I had sat in a hospital bed was when I was about nine, and I was never a fan of those crude hospital shows, so I really had no idea of what kind of procedures went on in a hospital room. Shit. I couldn’t let this happen.

“W---why am I here?” I whispered, squirming in the hospital bed.

“Hun, you passed out…”

“No, but I’m fine. Really. May I go home?” I asked, flashing a tiny smile.

“Yes, you may go home as soon as the doctor---”

I interrupted her, “no but I really am fine, I had passed out because---” I stopped. Why had I passed out? What had even happened? “Do you think you would be able to get my mum in here before I am examined?” I wondered.

“Your mum left last night.”

Typical. Of course she left. Like she really cared about anything that happened to me. I sighed angrily and pushed the thought out of my head.

“How ‘bout my father? Is he here?” I wondered.

The woman nodded and I asked her to bring him in.

“Erm…sure.” she turned to the other nurse for approval, and she nodded.

About five minutes later, he trailed in the room holding a fresh coffee. Of course he went to get a coffee before checking up on his sick daughter. That’s quite typical also.

“How’s your coffee?” I asked sarcastically, rolling my eyes.

“Great.”

I disputed his selfish demeanor for the moment and continued on to the reason I called him in here in the first place.

“What happened last night.”

He just sipped his coffee and plopped down in the chair across from my bed side.

We sat in silence for minutes, I clenched my fists.

“Stop being such an arrogant twat and answer me?!” I managed, but my throat felt raw from the inside, out, so I could hardly talk any louder than a whisper.

He just shook his head, “his car was found in the lake, and his body was gone. No trace of blood or remains or anything.”

I cringed at the way he spoke about Harry like he explaining some film crime scene. I began remembering again, I don’t know how I had forgotten. I had come home from my outing with Sara to my parents home unusually early. They had thought I had disappeared with Harry. And then everything after that was blank.
