I opened my eyes late that night still tender from the earlier accident, with Link beside me quietly watching basketball on TV.

"You didn't have to stay, you know," I whispered, my voice filled with gratitude. "You've already done so much."

Link leaned forward in the chair beside my bed, his gaze warm and unwavering. "I wanted to. I care about you. You've been more than just a host to me."

His words sent a flutter through my chest. I had never anticipated such kindness and genuine concern from him. "Thank you, Link. You've been amazing through all of this."

A comfortable silence hung in the air, a sense of shared understanding passing between us. I couldn't help but feel a growing connection between us.

Link, perhaps sensing the unspoken emotions, spoke up, "You know, Misty, sometimes life takes us by surprise. We start in one place, and suddenly, we find ourselves somewhere unexpected."

I turned my gaze to him, my eyes searching his face for meaning. "What do you mean?"

He shifted in his chair, his expression earnest. "I mean, when I came here, I thought I was just another student living in someone's home. But being here with you, especially tonight, it feels like... like we're much more than that."

My heart raced as I processed his words. Was he feeling what I had been feeling too? "Link, I never expected any of this either. But I'm glad you're here."

Our eyes locked, and in that moment, the unspoken connection between us became undeniable. It was as if the room crackled with an electric energy we couldn't ignore.

As the night turned to daylight, we continued to talk, sharing stories, dreams, and laughter. Our dependence on each other during this time of vulnerability had created a unique bond. I found myself relying on Link not just for physical support but also for emotional strength.

Before we knew it, hours had passed, and fatigue finally set in. I yawned, and Link followed suit. He rose from his chair. "You should get some rest. I'll be in my room if you need anything."

I smiled. "Thank you, Link. I really do appreciate you."

He leaned down, his face inches from mine, and softly brushed his lips against my forehead. "Sleep well, Misty."

As I drifted off to sleep, I couldn't help but wonder where this unexpected connection with Link would lead.
