Chapter 4 - Beta Ethan

(Cale's P.O.V)

It's another welcoming day for us Omegas. We're all doing  our usual woks and this is going to be a long  hectic day, considering the pack warriors are coming home from their training--we do need to feed them.

"Hey Cale, can we leave you for a while? The Luna ordered us to pick some flowers from the garden. Is it okay?" Emma, my fellow omega asked. "Oh yes, I'm fine here." I replied, putting a sweet smile on my face and in an instant, the girls stormed out of the room faster than a lightning.. leaving me all alone. They love flowers so much.. and being childish. I honestly want to go with them, but I need to take care of the kitchen. Everything is prepared, the foods are ready to be served. All What's left to do is for me to clean up the mess and maybe.. I could join the girls.

I hurried to the drawer to get a trash bag and started off putting all the vegetable skins and bones inside it. After doing so, I wiped the remaining sauce and flour on the counter, making sure the stains were removed well.

"I'm done!" I said to myself in delight. I'm all by myself here, smiling like the kid I am.. Trying to forget the troubles I am in to. I sighed. I hope that someday, I'm gonna live a normal life without worrying I'm getting bullied by someone. I scanned the entire room, examining every single detail to avoid mistakes. 

Everything's done. I was about to leave but a glimpse of a small jar caught my eye. Strawberry jam. A smile crept into my face. It's been a long time since I tasted it. Levi has always prevented me to eat anything from the pack's kitchen, he'll hit me if I do. Maybe, it's not bad if I'll take a spoon of it this time. Slowly, I pulled a wooden chair near the cabinet, stepping on it so I can reach the jar. Little by little, I was almost touching it.. but I accidentally lose my balance so I shut my eyes knowing that I'm going to fall straight on the floor.

However, a large pair of arms  wrapped around me instantly. I was saved! "Are you okay?" A masculine voice breathed upon me. "B-Beta Ethan?" I said, confusion written all over my face. "Hey, you almost hit the ground! What were you trying to get up there?" He asked curiously with a hint of amusement flashing through his eyes. "W-well.. uhmm, t-thank you for saving me.. Beta. I w-was just attempting to.. g-get that jar.." I stuttered as I pointed my index to the yummy jam. I swear I'm turning red in situations like this.

"You're too cute when you blush.. you know," He smirked, making me even more uncomfortable. Why am I being so shy around him? We used to talk. We used to be close.. but that was long time ago. He's too busy with his duties as the pack's Beta and socializing with him as near as this really is a rare occasion.  "Let me get it for you," He grinned, holding the shiny jar in front of me. He looks.. handsome. His amber orbs are like spectrum that penetrates into my soul. His brown hair is messy yet in a nice way, making him hotter.. and his frame screams and shows nothing but masculinity. I bet there's a lot of girls admiring him and dying just to be his mate. I chortled with that thought. 

"Is there something on my face?" That's when I found myself staring at him the whole time. Oh no.. How long have I been starstruck by his features? "Not too long.." He winked at me. What's wrong with you Cale? I guess I said it out loud. This is getting awkward. "By the way, the Luna want you in the office. Come with me." he said with eagerness in his voice. "O-okay.." I replied, taking the jar from his hand. We didn't talk that much afterwards.. silence took place as we passed by the hallways and up to the Alpha's office. 

Beta Ethan stood before me, facing the huge door. He knocked twice and and a voice soon came out. "Come in." Alpha Steven. The beta then opened the door and we both made our way inside. "Good day Alpha, Luna.." I greeted with a small smile. Luna Mary smiled back, nodding her head as she stood up from her seat. "Hi Cale..well, the reason why I called you was I'm not feeling well my dear.. and I can't see the pups. So I wanted to ask you if you could take care of them.." she asked with pleading eyes. She's so kind, and I can't ever deny any of her favors. Besides, I'm fond of the babies so it's not a big thing for me. 

"Of course Luna!" I said with full excitement waving through my voice. She even giggled with my behavior, the Alpha also laughed secretly. They seemed so happy. "That's good! Alright, here's the key, and oh! Ethan, would you please go with him?"

"Sure Luna!" The beta replied, turning his head as he flashed a smile at me. That was.. attractive. "Shall we go then?" he asked. I didn't even get the chance to say anything when he promptly took my hand in his. Intense warmth immediately crawled throughout my body. It felt unusual but it felt good at the same time. 

Once we reached the nursery, the tension grew even more High. It made me much uneasy.. so I cleared my throat to make Beta Ethan aware of it. "Uhmm.." I started. I couldn't find the proper words to say. This is getting edgy. "Oh sorry!" He instinctively said as he let go of me. I shrugged. Something seems weird. I mean, He's acting differently. He's not supposed to treat me as good as this, I'm just an omega.. too far from his rank.

I picked the key from my pocket, slowly unlocking the door and stepped inside with the Beta behind me. "Are they.. all abandoned?" He asked out of the blue. "Y-yes.. Beta. Is it the f-first time you've b-been here?" I stuttered out. I guess I'm right. Only few people had been in this place. The Luna always wanted to put some privacy when it comes to the pups.

"Yeah.. actually. Poor babies.." The beta gave a sad smile. I have no Idea that these pups could make such an affection towards this man. I smiled, but pressed my lips in a thin line.. remembering that my life was just like of these little creatures. I made my way to the pups one at a time, making sure that they were already fed before sleeping. The babies are snoring peacefully. Their tiny bodies are covered with rompers. Pups younger than two years has thin fur and much sensitive which is not enough to protect them from coldness and irritations. Beta Ethan stood beside me, curiosity plastered all over his face as if he has no clue of what and not to do with the babies.

"There.." I whispered, covering one of them with a Sleeper . All of them seemed fine. As we were about to leave, a small cry echoed across the room. Beta Ethan looked at me with eyes asking me what's going on but I hurried to the crying pup anyway. Joey.. he's eight months old, the youngest among the pups. He was found two weeks ago from the boarder, so the Alpha concluded that he came from rogues. It doesn't matter at all. Every pups are innocent and we don't mind to keep them whether they're from this pack or not.

"What's wrong with him??" The beta asked, keeping his eyes on the little grey wolf. "I think I need to change his diaper." I smiled. Beta Ethan watched me constantly as I fixed the problem. After doing so, I held Joey on my arms and sang a lullaby to put him to sleep easily. 

"Wow.."The beta said in awe. "Shhh.." I hushed as I placed my index on my lips, and the pup finally fell asleep. I put him carefully back on his cot as I turned to see the Beta who was already staring at me. "You're perfect, Cale. Whoever your mate is, I'm sure he's too lucky to have you.." I almost flinched with his statement. "H-He?.." I asked as I blinked my eye. "Yeah.. you're a submissive wolf Cale,  and for certain.. your mate is going to be a dominant Male wolf."

Beta Ethan accompanied me to every tasks I did the whole day, we talked, we laughed and honestly, it felt great. Still, I can't put out of my mind about what he told me. My mate is gonna be a guy?

"Cale?" then I realized I've been spacing out again. We were standing in front of my room. I'm thinking so much things. Beta Ethan kept staring at me as if he wanted to say something else. He sighed. "I know you love Levi, Cale.. but I just want you to know," He paused and out of nowhere, he planted a kiss on my forehead. "Good night.." he whispered then left me dumbfounded.
