Adalyn pov:

May 13th 2018

Adalyn pov:

Summer was almost here and I could get out of boring Arizona and live with my grandma for the summer. My grandma had a nice little old house in Monterey Bay in California. I always loved living with her because the people down there are always so nice.

My thoughts were interrupted by my English teacher tapping on my desk, "Ms.Cooper are you with us?" I nodded my head and studied the open book on my desk. None of the words progressed in my mind. I was staring at the words but all I could think about was summer. The sun beaming through my sunglasses, the sand in between my toes, and especially my grandmas bookcase with all kinds of books. Since last summer i've been trying to read all of the books before I go off to college.

I walked amongst the halls of Hanover High School looking for Aja. She always stood out so it wasn't that hard to spot her. I walked past the science building and I still couldn't find her. She is my ride home from school and she's nowhere to be found. It looks like you're walking Adalyn. I sighed to myself and trudged along the sidewalk. It is a 20 minute walk from Hanover to my house. Normally I would take the bus but it is emotionally intimidating with all the people on there. Besides it is not too bad of a day.

As I reached Greendale park, dark clouds rolled in. The sky turned dark gray, marble sized raindrops fell from the sky. Oh great. My house was 7ish minutes from this park. I began running, running as fast as I could. Houses, streets, shops passed by as I was running. I slowed as I heard a noise. "Adalyn, is that you?" I turned quickly towards the car that was to my right. "Uh yeah it is," I quietly said. "I'll give
you I ride home, I live around the block from you." I thought what's the worst thing that can happen, he is my neighbor anyways. I nodded and stepped towards his car.

He pushed open the door and I stepped in one foot after another. "What is your name," I said breaking the silence. "I'm Mateo." I have smiled and nodded not knowing what to say after that.

We got to my house and he held out his hand. I took his hand and he flipped mine over and gave it a soft kiss. "I'll see you later okay." I nodded and shut the door. What. In. The. Hell. I kinda fast walked up to the porch praying I can get away from that moment. My door swung open and I shut it without looking back. I set my backpack down by the coat rack at the front door and sped up to my room.

Ring. Ring. My phone lit up with Aja's picture that I have for her contact. It was when we were at Moochie's sandwich shop on 167 Opal Street. I took the picture because she got ranch on her upper lip. At the time she didn't know that I took the picture. She was so photogenic. My phone rang again interrupting my thoughts. I hit answer and her voice sounded sad. "Adalyn i'm so sorry I was talking with Brady and I lost track of time. To make up for it let's go get some frozen yogurt or something?" I spoke, "Aja I just want to clean up, my hair is wet from walking in the rain and I have homework to do. Maybe another time." She agreed and ended the call.

I fell back on my bed and looked up at the glow in the dark stars on my ceiling that me and mom put up when we first moved in. She let me put them wherever I wanted to. The were in a cluster that spelled out the letter A. I never have had the chance to take them down because they didn't match my room anymore. My room was typical boho with multiple out of place things that I refuse to get rid of.  Aja always insists that I should.

My life feels life feels like it's on repeat, everyday I wake up, go to school, come home, wake up, go to school. Maybe once in a while something exciting will happen but not often. Even during the summer all I do is sit by the beach reading poems and Shakespeare's plays. Maybe this summer it will be different.
