The Drug By Jacob Davidson

Prologue

(One Year Before Black Tuesday)

My name is Dr. Oliver Link. I am 60 years old, and I have recently created a drug called "Shock". It was meant to give the U.S. Military a certain, boost so that they could fight during the day, and train at night, along with the perk of being stronger, more agile, and simply being better at every physical attribute than a regular person.

The experiments were going perfectly until the human testing stage came up. We had a military soldier volunteer for the drug. The tests proved to be fatal. But not for him, but for everyone around him. Everyone he touched died without a cause. The first person to die concerned me. The second death made me realize that it might have been my drug. Six deaths later, the soldier is in maximum quarantine. Apparently, the bacteria in the Shock travels to the skin of the victim and kills anyone or thing it touches.

The "side effects" of Shock brought on the attention of the general of the military. He wanted to use my drug as a weapon against the enemies of the U.S., but I declined. He was not happy about that. He kept asking, coming up with countless stories about what could happen to the military, how much more powerful we could be, but I still declined. I have stored the shock where hopefully no one will find it.

If you are reading this, the shock will be right here, with you. But the question is, what are you going to do with it?

I put down the pen and went to the closet to open my safe behind the wallpaper in my closet. I set the newly written note in it along with the only Shock pills that can be found in the world. I close the safe and the closet door. I pick up my pen, the only thing left in my apartment, and head out to my taxi, behind the moving truck.

Before I could even open the taxi door, General Crane appeared down the rainy street in a trench coat I've never seen him wear before, along with some rubber gloves.

"So you burn down your lab and relocate yourself Ollie?" The general said, talking over the thunder. I replied.

"Did you expect that I would just wait for you to kill me."

"Now what would give you the impression that I would want to kill you?"

"The drug is too dangerous Gabe, you saw what happened to the first guy."

The general started to walk towards me.

"I'll give you one last chance Ollie. Either give me the shock" He says as he pulls out his revolver and points it at me. "Or my men will find it for you."

I paused for a moment then spoke.

"Go to hell Gabe"

He fires the gun, penetrating my chest. He fires one, two, three bullets. Everything goes into slow motion. As soon as the taxi driver gets out of the car to help me the general shoots him too. Along with the moving truck driver. The general walks closer to me and my unmovable body and whispers,

"It's such a shame, such a brilliant mind had to go to waste."

I start to fade out as he walks away. I'm too weak to scream from the pain in my chest.

I slowly look to my right to see the dead bodies of the taxi and moving truck drivers. The night sky starts to become darker and darker, until my eyes can't see anymore. I can hear my heart pounding, slower, and slower, and slower, until it stops.
