Chapter 23.5

The Awakening

ΔUnknownΔ

The rumbling began. It shook the ground and crumpled the building above me to the ground. Darkness. It's the only thing I've seen for so long. Buried under these grounds, I've only known the darkness. I'm not sure if remember what the light was like.

I long for seeing the sun, the beautiful natural flaming ball of gas that sustains life on this rocky wasteland we call earth. I long for the blue skies, the grassy fields, and the wonderful starry nights. I long for a life again.

My wish has been granted. The earthy crust quaked and rumbled, tumbling to the deep ground. Light spilled into my muddy grave for the first time in forever. The light. How long had it been since I dug my own grave and buried myself alive?

My eyes burn from the sudden exposure to the light. I was so used to the dark, dank confinement of my dirt bed. Air pumped into lungs for the first time in what seemed like an eternity. The tight sensation in my chest where my lungs had been in hibernation dissipated, ready to take in the wonderful fresh air. My heart, it began to beat once more as soon as my lungs began to work again. The stale blood in my veins is replaced by freshly flowing ichor.

I felt like I was just awakening from suspended animation. My body was stiff and tight from the lack of movement. My stomach was growling loudly. I haven't eaten in such a long time. Slowly, I moved my fingers. It felt so good to move. I moved my hands next and sat up. I could hear the cartilage crack as I loosened up. It felt so wonderful. Standing up, I groaned like I had just taken a short nap. Ha! More like a hundred year nap. I really need to find out what year it is, but stretching comes first. Don't want to pull anything after that long sleep. Touching my toes and stretching my arms up to the sky and to the sides, I decide that's good enough.

Humph. I'm in a giant hole. Literally. A gigantic hole about a thousand feet down. That's just great. Hm. I'm surrounded by debris. Lots of building materials. Suddenly, the thought occurred to me. How dare they?! They had built a building over my beloved's grave. I'll kill that person if I find the culprit!

How could they?! There was obviously a marked grave next to mine. Where are the remains? I need to burry them again and mark the grave. I look quickly, but I only find the skull and a few other bones. Good enough. I find a a plastic bag and put the bones inside. Good. Now, how to get out of the hole?

Actually, that's the easy part. It was a deep yet narrow hole, only a hundred feet across. Starting from the right side, I rush at the wall with the plastic bag full of bones around my neck like a cape. At full speed, I jump at the wall with full force and spring off of it.

The air whirled at me with my lightning fast speed. Air resistance could be a problem, but that's why I was jumping off the walls for a push and not just trying to jump out of the hole. I could, but it would be much harder.

Flying through the dirty air, I did a little half flip and turned to my stomach so my feet would impact the wall for a good push. I hit the wall at an alarming speed, probably the impact force of jumping off a tall building and hitting the ground with a splat. Luckily, I'm almost indestructible.

I felt the impact in my bones and knees, a little sting, but I ignore and pushed off the wall, thundering upward. Doing another flip, I miscalculated and I didn't have time to turn to my stomach.

The next impact was even harder than before, and I hit the wall wrong this time. A sickening crack sprung to my ears, and I squealed in pain. My left foot was burning with an excruciating pain. I didn't have time to thing about it though. I pushed off the wall with my right side, still not facing the right way. My back was to the ground, and I flew with my arms stretching over my head. It wasn't enough force to make me fly up, but it gave me a little sail through the air so that I could heal a little. Only a little time to heal though.
