I shift the bag on my shoulder, watching the Hyrule champion from afar. He was stocking up, buying supplies for his journey.

"Where are you off too?" Mrs. Poll comes from being me, touching my arm.

"Out for a while. Being cooped up just isn't my style" I smile nervously at the older woman

"Oh, well then good luck child, you be careful you hear?" She smiles, a certain fondness in her eyes

I nod, watching as she walks off.

I turn back around to keep spotting Link, but he was gone.

"Huh?" I hurry forward, towards the gates. I catch sight of the hero mounting his horse, galloping away.

I get the sudden fear of being left, so I run.

I swing onto my horse, spurring her on "GO MIDNIGHT"

we chase Epona and Link, staying just far enough behind so they wouldn't see us.

"Easy night, we want to stay hidden" the black and white horse complies slowing

We ride behind Link for a while, following him deeper and deeper into the forest.

He turns a sharp corner, but when I turn he isn't there.

"What?" I jump off midnight, looking around in confusion

I freeze when I feel the cold tip of a sword point into my back "who the hell are you?"

Links forceful voice is hard

"Evelyn, my name is Evelyn" I put my hand up so he knows I don't mean any harm.

"Why are you following me?"

"I'm sorry, I just wanted to get out somewhere. I never really get the chance to go out of the kingdom." I try to explain, struggling to not sound creepy

Link lowers his sword, and I slowly turn to face him

"Well, it'd be very unwise to send you back now, especially since it's getting dark. I guess you'll just have to tag along with me from now on." He sheathes his sword, turning back to Epona

"We'll go a bit further, then we'll set up camp." He mounts the horse, looking down at me.

"Okay.." I reply, mounting Midnight, instructing her to follow

The hero leads the way, setting a brisk pace

We travel for a little while, slowing down when we get closer to a large clearing

"Watch out, there's monsters up ahead" Link slows till he is next to me

We approach the group of bobolokins, Link jumping off Epona  "stay back!"

I also dismount, pulling my bow out

Link is quickly surrounded, the bobolokins leering at him

I notice one of them jump onto Links back, so I shoot the creature in the head

It screeches, disappearing in a puff of smoke

Link and I work together, shooting and stabbing the monsters

He held his hand out to me, sheathing his sword "you're alright."

I clasp his hand, shaking it firmly "so are you"

"Let's set up camp here" he sets his supplies down

"Night" I summon my horse, who trots over with Epona by her side

"Tie them up please?" Link calls, motioning to a nearby creek

I nod, securing the animals to a tree within reaching distance to the water

"I'll go hunt, you stay here and set up camp" he disappears before I can reply

"Ok..."

I gather wood to make a small fire, dragging logs over so we could sit.

I'm arranging branches to make a  small shelter when Link returns, a small bird in hand "wow... Good job'

I glance over, balancing sticks in top of the crude structure "thanks."

He skins and guts the bird, roasting it over the fire. "So, we should reach the temple by tomorrow, there's no telling what's inside the temple though"

I cover the top in leaves, standing and walking over to the fire. "Are we going to have to fight Ghirahim?"

Link shrugs " well we're just supposed to stop him. Force is only to be used as a last resort" he pauses, looking at me "you're really handy with that bow. Where'd you learn?"

I hesitate, sitting near the fire.

"A.. friend."

How was I supposed to tell him the Yoga kidnapped me and taught me their ways?

He looks at me suspiciously, but nods regardless "here"

I take my portion of the bird, eating slowly

"Any family?"

I hesitate again "n-no. I was orphaned when I was little. I live alone"

He stares at me, trying to decipher my words "but you had a child with you, at the ceremony."

I shrug "Chee. I babysit her when her mother gets annoyed with her"

He nods "how old are you?"

I look up "why the questions, Mr. Hero?"

He chuckles "just making sure I know my new partner"

I smile "ditto. Tell me about yourself"

He shrugs, dropping my gaze "nothing to tell. I was born and raised in the castle. It was always expected that I become the chosen Knight"

I look at him curiously "how was it, growing up in the castle? With Adalyn going missing and stuff?"

"I was born 2 years before Zelda, when Adalyn was born she was just as much my sister as she was Zelda's. Everyone was devastated when she went missing... The king and queen waiting as long as they could before declaring her dead, she would be 19 now. After that there was always a sense of loss around the castle. Her room wasn't touched, its still locked up. Other than that it's okay. I grew up training though" he shrugs, throwing the bones into the fire

I nod slowly

They did miss me

"I'm 19"

The words come out before I can stop them, and I mentally chastise myself

He looks up, a look of shock on his face

"I'm 23"

We sit in silence, both of us lost in thought

Should I tell him?

No...

He sounds so sad...

No.

Link abruptly stands up "we should probably get some rest. Tomorrow will be hard.."

I nod and we both head to the small shelter

I settle in, as far away from Link as possible

"Well goodnight, Hero of Hyrule"

"Goodnight, Evelyn."
