The soft ticking of a nearby wall clock seemed to grow louder in Namjoon's mind. Its constant tick-tock slowly evolved into a series of steady pangs from an imaginary heart monitor, eventually matching the actual pace of his own beating organ. But soon what seemed to act like a metronome got quicker. He could hear a heartbeat racing rapidly, but it wasn't his. He could hear whispers from different directions, yet they all sounded the same.

"Namjoon..." Father.

As the heartbeat got quicker, the pangs got louder, and the familiar voice infiltrated his mind from various points. Covering his ears didn't help, nor was shutting his eyes to the darkness to calm himself.

"Goodbye..."

The heartbeat came into a halt and the loudest beep rang through his ears as his father's figure flashed in his head, and saw his once moving chest heave down to its final exhale.

Beeeeeeeeeep-

"Namjoon!"

He immediately looked up from the hands that once enclosed his head, eyes widening at the sight of the hospital lobby.

Everything was alright. Everything was okay.

"Hey." Namjoon gasped when he felt something suddenly clamp on his shoulder. He sighed in relief when his eyes finally met Jimin's and Maia's.

"Guys," he croaked as he stood to engulf them into a hug. The two visiting friends wrapped their arms around the poor boy, noting how pale he looked when they first arrived.
