James' POV
I sighed to myself as I finished packing my final pair of shoes.
I don't want to move, but mother says it's for the best. I guess she's right though, I need to start acting my own age from now on.
I zipped up my suitcase and rolled it down the stairs and of course, mother is right at the door . How predictable of her, she spoils me like a kid in a candy store...
"Have you got all your things ready honey?" She says in her 'I'm the best mother ever' kind of voice.
I nodded as she continued.
"The moving department says they delivered all of the furniture I bought for you. I hope you'll like all the stuff I got you!"
Eventually I tuned her out as she kept babbling on about every single thing she'd done for me.
My family had so much money, they didn't know what to do with it. Sometimes, I wish that it was different, that I had a normal life.
All my family does these days, is suck up to me for being an only child and; force themselves to do every little thing for me. I mean come on, it wouldn't hurt if my family let me do some stuff on my own for once.
I'm 18 years old for god's sake.
However, the main reason I'm moving away for a while is because I really need some time apart from my family. I don't get time to myself anymore, ever since my boyfriend left me...
No, I didn't want to remember that.
Not today, today is important.
I'm a grown man, I need to start facing things like an adult and this is a perfect way to start.
I noticed that my mother had finally stopped talking and looked like she was waiting for an answer.
"Come again?" I spoke, a little embarrassed I hadn't heard her question.
She smiled and spoke with to much joy in her voice,"I said, do you have everything you need sweetie?"
"Oh- uh, yeah... I think so." I mumbled.
She smiled and gestured me towards the door and opened it for me.
"Call me when you get there James, and make sure you drive safely." she spoke with a little bit of worry mixed in her voice.
"Mom, are you ok? you seem a little anxious about me leaving." I said and pulled her into a hug. She may be a pain, but she's still my mother.
"Oh, I'm fine honey thank you... I just can't believe you've grown to this age. It seemed like just yesterday when I held you in my arms..." She spoke quietly, voice full of sorrow.
I pulled away from her and looked into her eyes, "Mom, I'll uhh..." I trailed off.
She looked at me and smiled,"I'll miss you too James." I nodded and walked out the door, my suitcase slowly rolling behind me.
She waved and I returned the gesture then loaded my suitcase into the car.
When I entered the car, I got a surprise kiss from my corgi; Max.
I rubbed his ears and turned the ignition, smiling.
This is a new start for me, and I can't wait to begin.
*Three hours later*
I yawned and glanced at the clock.
6:34 PM
It felt like I've been driving forever, but I was nearing my destination.
I grazed my hand through my thick black hair and sighed. I hope this place had some food in store, I forgot to eat lunch.
As I laughed to myself silently, I turned up the radio.
I wonder if anyone would be there waiting for me, like a real estate agent or something. maybe they could show me around, my mother did tell me it was a rather large house...
I looked into the rear view mirror and my violet eyes glistened. Everyone always said that rYour eyes are gorgeous!' or 'You have the most beautiful eyes!'
Don't get me wrong I did enjoy the compliments, but they can get annoying.
I perked up instantly as a dirt road appeared to my right, I instantly turned down it and smiled. It was bumpy and dusty, as if no one had driven down it in ages.
I squinted my eyes in search of a house of some sort but nothing came into sight. How long is the damned thing?
Just before I lost hope, my eyes widened and my mouth practically dropped to the floor.
Mother said it was a house, not a damned mansion!
As I pulled into the drive way, I had seconded thoughts. Maybe I should just turn around and go home...
I could curl up on my couch and drink hot cocoa. Then I could snuggle my Little Max.
That sounded nice, I closed my eyes for a bit as I sat in my car.
Instantly I was jolted awake in surprise from a tapping in my window.
I let out a yelp and turned to see a man with bright blonde messy hair. He had a pair of thin black glasses and a fancy gray vest.
He smiled and I saw he had oddly pointed teeth.
I smiled with hesitation clearly visible in my face, and reached for the car door handle. He stepped aside to let me out of the car, a bright smile on his face.
Wow, his hair looks like a big poofy mane! It was hard to resist tousling it as I stepped out of the car and stood in front of him.
He held out his hand and I gave it a fist-bump. He looked confused for a second but laughed as he introduced himself. I felt like and idiot for that, and I mentally face-palmed myself.
"I'm Raion Sterling, but you can call me Rai for short." He began. "I take it you're James?"He grinned more as each word came out.
"Uh, yeah. Man this place is huge.." I spoke, mostly just thinking out loud.
He grinned more if that was even possible.
"Ah, yes! Your mother can really pick them!"
I nodded as I studied the house. It was a bright purple house, with black trimming. As I looked at the windows, I thought I saw a slight human-like figure behind it.
I frowned, "Is there someone else here?"
Rai cocked his head at my question, "Not that I know of..." He spoke with confusion mixed in his voice.
When I looked back at the window, nothing was there. It was probably my imagination, I was pretty tired after all.
"Sir, may I show you around?" Rai said with joy.
I looked at him and nodded, "That would be nice." I said while taking Max out of the car.
He smiled and turned towards the entrance of the home, I wonder what the inside holds...
As Rai was unlocking the door, i couldn't help but notice a gaze burning into my back.
I whipped my head around quickly only to see nothing and frowned.
Man, I must be really tired...
