Scott and Finley
"Nice shirt where did you get it clearance?" Finley says with that well-known smirk that could cut you to the core with just one glance at it. I wasn't affected though, two could play at that game.
"Nice lip injections where you inspired by Flounder from the Little Mermaid?"
"You Know Scott in order for you to insult me I would first have to value your opinion."
"Well, you know what Finley at least my birth certificate wasn't an apology from the condom factory." That shut her right up.
Out of all 7 people I could have been paired with to explore the jungle I got Finley Grace. The one person I had a history with and not the good kind. We walked through the jungle in dead silence.
It all started 4 years ago when we were in the seventh grade. She was the girl that struggled with her body image. Finley was once the punching bag for insults from other cruel girls that made fun of her weight. Then you had me Scott the boy that didn't fit in with the others. Back then I didn't know who I was it took me a while to find myself and to be proud of who I am.
Finley and I seemed to have rescued each other we were no longer alone. We became friends I helped her build up her confidence in herself and she helped me to realize myself worth and figure out who I was. She began to love herself and I finally understood who I was. I then became the only outed boy in my middle school and it felt good.
That all ended though when we went off to high school. Finley had lost a ton of weight over the summer and had a huge glow up. She had become almost unrecognizable, it came with a cost though she also became just like the other girls that had once bullied her and made her forget her self-worth. Long story short our friendship had dissolved into existence.
That was what used to be though now we were just two people that had nothing to do with one another. Hard to believe right?
Pulling me out of my thoughts Finley trips tumbling onto the jungle floor. I couldn't help it, I busted out laughing it served her right.
She pulls herself up as if nothing happened and continued walking in front of me which she seemed to be limping.
"You good ?" I asked.
"I'm fine!" She says irritated.
"Here get on my back," I say.
"I don't need your help!" she says embarrassed.
"Suit yourself," I say walking ahead of her just waiting for her to change her mind.
Just as I expected:" Wait Scott."
There I was carrying Finley on my back through a jungle. We had been going forever and nothing seemed to stand out that deemed any importance.
Finleys POV
Here I was on Scotts back in the middle of a jungle this was beyond embarrassing. Did I really need him? If the others knew about this I would never hear the end of it.
"Damn you're heavy," Scott says complaining.
"It's not like I asked you to carry me."
"Oh really because I will gladly drop you right here right now." He says, but knowing Scott he wasn't joking.
I felt my self-sliding off as Scott let go of me. I clung on for dear life. "Don't drop me my ankle hurts I think I spranged it when I tripped!" I screamed.
"That's what I thought," Scott says, I just knew he was smirking without even seeing it.
"Can I at least rest for a moment?" He asked.
"Whatever," I say rolling my eyes.
"Let's go into that cave over there this sun is unbearable."
So there we were sitting in a cave.
The cave was pretty shallow and the sun showed its self through the opening. It was enough for us to notice the carvings on the walls of the cave. There wasn't one inch of the cave that wasn't covered by drawings and carvings.
The weirdest thing though was that the drawings and carvings were surrounding what seemed to be a phrase: "Ah shall con bah to, Neb le roy mal con Thetheus a newt, le pie."
"What the hell is that?" Scott says, he was just as confused as I was.
"Well, at least we found something so the others won't be on our back when we go back," I say. I feel like the others never expect much of me, I always get stuck with the small jobs. It doesn't help that they never talk to me either, its kind of lonely.
"What now? We found something that doesn't make any sense so what?" Scott says.
"Let's just sit here a while," I say.
"How's it going?"
"Considering that we are stranded on an island where nothing makes sense you tell me. It's not like you genuinely care anyway."
"Scott, what happened to us?"
Scott and I stare into each other's eyes until Scott answers: "Are you kidding me, Finley? You happened that's what happened between us."
"I'm sorry that I'm happy now, hate to be the bearer of bad news."
"I didn't know happiness was defined as hanging out with a bunch of fake girls that would leave you within minutes of a new it girl walking through the doors of Maxwell prep," Scott said with anger written across his sharp features.
Those words struck up a sea of memories from the past with Scott. It reminded me of the fun we had, was that what true friendship was? We were indestructible I had Scott and he had me, we had each other.
"I'm sorry." The two words left my mouth that I never thought would in that moment. The shocking part about it is I meant it, I wasnt faking it for once,It felt good.
Scott looks at me with his clear blue eyes filled with shock. I timidly reach out and hug him and as if it was confirmation that he forgave me Scott hugged me back.
