Hello everyone, my name is Jaime Cavalier, CEO of Cavalry Corp, this is the story of my high school years, when I first inherited my mother's business. You all know Calvalry, the main industry behind our tech, healthcare, entertainment, artificial intelligence, you name it, Cavalry has it all. Well let's get started, shall we?
It was another sunny day in my home town of Berkely, California. I woke up, showered, got dressed, brushed my teeth, and listened to my mother's latest Holo-Message about why she couldn't be here today.
"I'm sorry my little strawberry, but I have a meeting in Washington, I should be back by tommorow, I love you." Repeated the blue image of my mother.
She called me 'little strawberry' because when I was 11, I wanted to dye me hair red, like the Flash's suit, I was obsessed with the guy, red and yellow was the color of everything I owned for a solid year. Mom said I reminded her of a strawberry, I've had that nickname for 6 years now. I scarfed down my breakfast and got ready for school.
I got onto the bus, and sat next to my friend who also took this bus to school, Charlie, now I have known Charlie ever since the 8th grade, still gives me free tickets to the Super Bowl just to make sure we never stayed apart from each other to long, and I hate football. We engaged a discussion about the upcoming science test.
Charlie was tall, about 6'1 in High School, as a junior no less. He had curly white blond hair, a slim yet muscular frame, not ideal for football but hell if he wasn't good at it.
"Dude, you have to help me, it was a late practice with the coach yesterday, and now I'm unprepared as hell." He panicked. Charlie was smart, but his football practice constantly got in the way of his academics.
"Charlie, now I tell you this in the nicest way possible, but can't you get Cynthia to do this?" I replied.
"Dude you know she has Modern Architecture before Science, so the only time to do it is now." Charlie was certainly screwed here if I didn't help him.
After a brief study session we arrived at school, and we were instantly hailed over by Cynthia. Cynthia was Polonesian with brown hair and tiny freckles, which she was often teased about, very smart, about 5'4 with a medium build. (that's all I can say without people getting offended)
"Did I you guys here about the new police officer moving into town?" She asked. We both nodded. "We'll get this, his son, Jordan is coming to this school and I think we should give him a tour, include him to our tremendous trio." Cynthia always hated when people joined our group, so this was strange, she knew something I didn't, it bothered me.
It was 2nd period, Geometry, when I saw him. He was 5'7, with rich chocolatey colored skin, hazelnut eyes, and a well structured frame, male perfection, upon seeing him, I blushed, Cynthia gaped, I never blushed, I mean never, she had tried to get me to several times before. 'Uh-oh' I thought to myself.
"That's the new kid?" I asked hopefully. Cynthia was at a loss for words until she finally spoke. "Listen, we'll talk about this later. Let's just get through this project really quick." I looked back to my sheet. But Jordan was the only thing on my mind.
At lunch, Cynthia grabbed my by the ear and dragged me to our group's table. It was nothing fancy, just an old wooden bench but nobody else really sat there so we kind of turned it into our own space.
"Ok Strawberry, spill." Cynthia demanded. I had been afraid to come out to my friends because Charlie would act like it's not a big deal, it isn't but Charlie tries so desperately to seem normal it's disturbing. And Cynthia would shove her obsession with LGBT fan fiction onto me, which surprise surprise, is exactly what happened.
"Oh what, that's totally normal and cool man." Charlie squeaked. "And then there's romance stories or stuff that gets right into the mess if you're into that." Cynthia droned on for about 5 more minutes.
Cynthia met me after school to drive us to the robotics competition, we were both on our schools team and we were going up against Turing Academy for the finals. We entered into the stage as the TA team were getting off with their Swiss army vacuum, able to do every possible cleaning job in a matter of minutes. It would be tough to beat. But I had faith in our bot, which scanned the faces of white-listed people and plays the specific song they are in the mood to hear. We decided on thinking of the late 20th century song, Backstreet's Back, by the Backstreet Boys, but Cynthia was distracted, the bot blew a fuse and crashed to the stage. We were heartbroken.
We met Charlie after the competition and he was there with Jordan, I blushed slightly, Jordan didn't seem to notice, I asked him about it later, he noticed.
"How did it go?" Charlie asked. Me and Cynthia looked away from each other. "That bad, huh?" Charlie said, answering his own question. "Well, I managed to top run into Jordan here after football practice, turns out he was auditioning for our school musical." Charlie said, nudging me.
I had always said my perfect match was someone who loved the theater, those exact words, I never revealed my preferred gender. I understood why straight was seen as default, being straight is the basic for reproduction, which is our genetic purpose, to pass down our genes, so I used that to my advantage.
"Well I'm gonna take off, my house isn't going to watch itself, even though it can." I said, taking a glance at my little group I had. I headed for the security team waiting for me with a full on armored car. When it came to my safety, my mother meant business.
Halfway home, I heard a faint beeping coming from the road. I tried to shout for the driver to stop, but it was to late, an explosion sent us toppling onto unrelenting traffic, which sent me through 1.5 inches of bulletproof glass and slamming me face first into an oncoming pickup truck.
(Authors note: So how did you guys like the new chapter one?)
