I ran alongside the river, scared out of my mind. I had been minding my business, when all of a sudden I heard a voice. And that's when I started to run. The guy kept getting closer, and I was slowing down. He came up behind me, and tackled me to the ground. I screamed, even though no one else would hear me. He shoved my head into the water, and the world faded before my eyes.

I was in my kitchen when they came. I had heard screams from down the street and knew they would be here soon. My father had grabbed his sword from the basement and had gone out front to give my mother, sister, and I time to escape. At the moment, I was helping my sister out a window in my room at the back of the house. I heard shots from outside and urged her to go faster. My mother was waiting on the grass below to catch her. When my sister froze, having heard the shots also, I gave her a gentle push, just enough to send her out the window. A yell came from outside, followed by the sound of them trying to break the door down. I knew my father must be dead.

"Go. I'll be alright," I yelled at my mother to take my sister and go. I probably wouldn't have made it out the window before they came , I would have only giving my mother and sister away. I smiled sadly at my mother and closed the window to wait for them to come. I walked into the hallway and down the stairs to the living room to wait. I sat on the couch and sighed. The sound of the front door being broken to splinters reached my ears and I closed my eyes and leaned back. It was my time.

I was hunting when I heard them coming. I had my bow and arrow on my back, and had just spotted an elk. This could feed my family's dinner for months. Then I heard someone coming. I had heard about the deaths, about the people. And I knew I was next. A huge dog came out of the bushes and jumped on top of me. As it was about the rip me apart, I heard a deep voice say,"Good boy, Se-". I never found out the dog's name that killed me.

I had gone to the bathroom after I had finished my English quiz. When I heard the weird popping noise, I thought that somebody had some bubble wrap and was stepping on the little pockets of air. Then I heard something hitting the ground hard and thought it might not be bubble wrap. When the bathroom door slammed open, I jumped back into one of the two stalls. I peeked my head around the door and saw it was just Balan, my best friend. I breathed a sigh of relief and stepped out of the stall. Right before my eyes, Balan dissolved and in his place was one of them. They were pointing a long, black thing that looked like it was made of metal. They pulled their finger back and I heard another popping noise before something hit my chest. Pain flared in my chest and spread through my body as I crumbled to the ground.

I was just sitting down with my parents for dinner. We were on edge with all the mysterious deaths happening. I couldn't imagine someone coming to find us, but my parents were worried. They even boarded up our windows to make it look like the house is uninhabited. I was the only child, so they were so scared of losing me. I just picked up my fork when I heard something heavy hit our house and deep voices yelling. My mom screamed, jumping back from the table, her chair on the floor.

"Go, run away! I will take care of this," I said. My dad tried to stop me, but I ran out of the house to investigate. There was a big black thing on the side of our house, and it was making a ticking noise. I ran over to it, not sure if it was dangerous or not. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw my parents run toward the jungle.

At least they would be safe. I touched the black thing, and my life flashed before my eyes as I was thrown into the air.

We were doomed. Doomed from the start, really, I thought as I ran through the jungle, trees whipping me in the face. We had always had it coming. We had tried to hide our dirtiest secrets. The way he had come so far, how we had come to live here. Those were the things that ultimately brought our downfall. I could hear heavy footsteps behind me and mentally pushed myself to run faster. Suddenly, the ground came rushing toward my face. A root; I had tripped on a root. They were coming. I scrambled to my hands and knees and tried to keep crawling. I crawled forward a few feet before I came face to face with someone's legs. I heard cruel laughing and closed my eyes, waiting for the inevitable to come. I heard the knife being removed from its sheath. I was going to die.
