"Kurai, I'm sor-"
"No you're not!" I screamed, vision blurred by hot tears. "Don't you dare try to say your sorry! You don't mean a single word that comes out of your mouth!"
Hope had lost all ability to feel any kind of emotion. Including his love for me. Now I'm not so sure if he even loved me at all. After spending decades with him in the Ark, he finally decides to tell me that all the emotion I poured out for him meant nothing. And that's not something I do for just anyone. I keep my heart locked behind walls that rival even the strongest fortress imaginable. It's a big deal if I share any kind of emotion besides frustration or contentedness. But I guess I was fooled. I won't let it happen again.
"Kurai, please listen," he pleaded.
"I refuse," I growled and tensed up. "I don't want to hear your excuses. I don't want to hear about Bhunivelize. I don't want to hear any of it! As much as it hurts to say this, and as much as it kills me to follow through with it: goodbye, Hope. Enjoy being a pawn for a false deity." I turned on my heel and headed for the portal to Nova Chrysalia.
"Please, Kurai" he cried and grabbed my arm. With a violent jerk and a loud crack of skin coming in contact with skin, I looked him straight in the eye and gave him the last of my emotions I was willing to give up: despair, betrayal, grief, hate, and disappointment.
"I'm leaving. Don't bother coming after me, cause by the time you truly realize how heavy this burden has gotten after all these years, I'll be happily sleeping six feet under the ground without a worry in this twisted world."
He looked at the ground, a bright red handprint covering the entire left side of his face.
Without giving myself a chance to break down and take it all back, I took the portal to Luxerion.
A group of people in white clothes stood a little ways away. One of them saw me. I casually pulled my hood over my head and started to wander.
A few days later, I saw the same person with a similar-looking group of people. They all looked at me as I passed by, a title rolling off their tongues in a whisper I couldn't hear.
"Excuse me, miss," the man gently grabbed my elbow. "Are you new here?" I stopped walking and looked up at him.
"Sort of," I replied, deliberately avoiding long phrases and limiting the amount of bitterness able to be conveyed (I haven't gotten over what had happened less than a week before).
"I recognized your cloak," he smiled knowingly. "You're Valhalla's Messenger, aren't you?" His question didn't sound like a question.
"I don't know what your talking about," I stated bluntly. "I found this coat a few years ago; maybe the person who lost it is this messenger person."
His friends surrounded me. "Don't lie, I know those eyes, too. It was said that Valhalla's Messenger had eyes as bright as the cosmos and yours fit that description perfectly" I scowled at my own stupidity.
"What do you want from me?"
"Your cooperation," his hand fastened around my arm. "Come with us. We need your help to find the Shadow Hunter."
Shadow Hunter? I don't know a Shadow Hunter. The only hunter I know is No- oh. Of course, they're looking for Noel. How stupid can I be?
"What do you want from the Shadow Hunter?" I gave the guy a confused stare.
"We need him to fulfill the prophecy and kill the Savior," he replied.
"I don't really have much of a choice here, do I," I sighed. "Give me some breathing room and I'll take you to him." They all backed up. "Thank you," I brushed off my cloak and led them in a random direction. They followed obediently and stayed quiet. After a little while of wandering, they started getting impatient.
"There he is!" I exclaimed triumphantly and pointed to a big fluffy black and white dog. In a rush of excitement, they surged toward the creature then stopped when they realized I had tricked them. I was halfway down the street by the time they started chasing me.
They were an adamant bunch, I'll give 'em that. I scaled building after building and they still hadn't given up. I looked back one last time and saw they weren't following me anymore. But in doing so I missed my jump and fell a couple stories, crashing into any and every ledge in my way before finally landing on the ground in a bloody heap. Unfortunately, I had fallen into an alley long abandoned by humans that reeked of monster.
I wasn't sure how long I had been unconscious, but a familiar voice pulled me out of the dark and strong arms lifted me off the cold ground. The familiar figure held me to their chest, their strength easily holding up my feather-light body and one hand holding my head against their shoulder. Soft brown locks tickled my face and I relaxed into Noel's comforting warmth.

Square makes me so mad sometimes +M+ the little trick they pulled makes me really angry, the situation Noel is in and Hope's lack of emotion especially. But I won't go into further details. Just know that I'm not happy with LR.
FF related stuff belongs to Square Enix, Kurai belongs to me.
