You Smile I Smile [ 1 ]
I giggled as Max gently rubbed his nose to mine while tickling my tickle spot. I giggled even more as Jace joined in and tickled me on the same spot. I've had enough and pushed them. I guess I've had to much that it gave me the strength to push those two boys away from me.
We were in my backyard doing whatever we wanted to do. We would sometimes sneek inside our neighbor's backyard and pluck flowers from their bushes and make our own bouquets.
They ran away from me knowing that I would seek revenge. "You guys are bullies!" I shouted as I ran towards them and tackled them to the ground with an 'umph'. We were laughing so hard, it hurt. "My tummy!" Max cried as he was laughing harder than Jace and I.
When we finally recovered from our laughter, we were still grinning from ear to ear. I smiled at Jace while Max was still recovering. Jace smiled back copying my smile. I frowned at him and he frowned back still copying my frown. I made funny faces and he still copied each one.
"Why do you do that?" I smiled at him and still he copied me.
"Do what?" he replied innocently tilting his head to the right with the same smile I had.
"That." I laughed touching his bottom lip.
He smirked. For a 7 year old he was pretty hansome. Especially with that smirk on his face. He had muddy blonde hair while Max had dirty blonde and I had chocolate brown. We were very different from each other but what can I say, opposites attract.
His blue eyes stared into my brown ones and he removed my finger from his bottom lip still smirking " If you smile, I smile" he said with so much meaning in his voice, I felt something deep within me. A feeling I've never felt before. I shrugged it off and playfully pushed him while laughing trying to avoid his gaze which triggered that unfamiliar feeling. Max soon joined in on our laughter.
*******
Our backyard was always filled with laughter of three 7 year olds and we always loved it that way. We continued on like that. Laughing, playing and spending our time together. On evenings we would lay under the stars and say anything we would want to or what shape we could form with the stars.
"Ooh a dot! I see a dot!" Max exclaimed as he pointed to the night sky filled with twinkling stars we were currently watching.
Jace and I laughed at Max's small imagination.
"What?"
"Nothing." Jace and I replied at the same time but we still couldn't stop the small giggles from coming out.
It was always like that. We would come to one of our backyards and play our hearts out until sunset and watch the sun go down and the stars come out. We always enjoyed each others company. Until those three laughters always heard in the backyard were turned into two. On the place we would watch the stars, the spot next to me was now empty.
Jace left.
His father had a job opportunity in another city and were moving there.
The day before Jace and his family were leaving, Max, Jace and I spent our whole day like it was our last day together but Jace promised that it wasn't. He promised that he would someday come back and we would be together again.
We played on that day like never before. If anyone had a suggestion of what we could do to make that day special, we would do it right away and won't waste a minute. Our parents let us play as much as we wanted because they understood how much we wanted to make our last day our best. We even stayed up late doing whatever it is we wanted such as eating everything left in our kitchen whether it is junk food or sweets, watching whatever was left to watch.
And the last thing we did that day was what we always did before a goodbye at the end of the day, watching the stars. We did that until sunrise. And before we knew it, it was the day for Jace to leave.
"I'll miss you Jacey." I sobbed into his chest.
"I'll miss you too Rhyles." He smiled sadly at me and Max.
We were in the front lawn of Jace's house saying our goodbyes. I hugged Jace with all my might hoping that if I hugged him with all I had, he wouldn't have to go. That if I hugged him tight enough, he wouldn't have to say goodbye.
I felt another pair of arms wrap around Jace and I. It was Max hugging us with the same amount of might I had in hugging Jace. We stayed like that for a minute, remembering our good times together. Enjoying how it feels to be in each others arms. Placing whatever emotion we felt to each other in that hug.
I wished time would just stand still. I wished we could stay in that moment forever, but that wasn't possible. Sooner or later we had to let go. Sooner or later we had to say good bye.
"Jace its time to go." His father said interrupting our moment. We broke apart from the hug hearing his father's voice.
"I guess its time to say goodbye." I whispered trying to keep in the sob that was threatening to come out.
"We'll see each other again soon, don't worry." Jace smiled sadly.
He hugged Max and I for the last time,
and left.
