Everything. Everything that could possibly go wrong is going wrong. High school, sometimes we love it and most times we hate it. Personally, I love the fact that pursuing my education is going to be my ticket out of my house, but at the same time can't stand all the backstabbing and ruined relationships I'll have to encounter before that.

"Earth to Courtney! You've literally been staring over my head for the past 5 minutes, snap out of it!"

Jaque grabs my shirt and drags me to the side of the hallway, and I lean against her locker as she keeps yelling.

"The moment we walked out of my car you completely zoned out. Something is wrong, I can feel it but staring with your mouth wide open isn't going to help us solve it bih."

She pauses and looks in the direction I'm still staring in, then realization dawns on her. Sienna Mack leans against a locker shamelessly flirting or should I say attempting  to flirt with Alex Montoro. I mean he's only been my crush since sophomore year, which she should obviously know, but who's checking for morals these days? Although the fact that she actually has the nerve to try and steal my chance of shooting my shot is pretty pathetic, just shows her lack of self-control.

"Sorry girl I just need a moment, something got in my eye."

I fan my eyes as the tears threaten to fall, I don't even know why they're trying to surface. Maybe it's because this my ex-best friend we're talking about and I can't believe its over or merely the fact that she's picked my crush as her next prey.

"No need to get so worked up about them honey, Alex is generally a nice person; I mean I'm no body language expert but even I can tell that he's not interested in her from all the fake laughing and constant movement of his eyes."

"Girl you right, but you're tripping I'm not upset about that. I just expected Sienna to say hi or acknowledge me ya know."

"Yeah right, let's head to class don't need to be late on our first day and miss out on all the new cuties."

I hold my head high as we walk by Alex and Sienna, please don't say something Sienna, please I'm not trying to go all Hialeah on this girl this morning. Alex, however turns to me and waves. At least I'm not invisible to him, 'cause we did stay up till 1 am texting last night. Right when we're in hearing range I say with as much sass possible,

"Honestly though girl this school needs some new guys! But true we don't have time for Sienna today I'm not about to start taking L's on day one! "

Gotta get Sienna to see she has no effect on me despite her taunts. Anywhoo this year I'm lucky to have most of my classes with Jaque or right next door to her, which means we'll see each other all the time. My schedule this year is actually really good, I start my day with English rather than math, even though the past two years of high school I've always had math first. Like excuse me school, whose brain is functioning to do equations that early in the morning? Not I.

"How long have we been friends for Coconut?"

Dang it this is not the time to get emotional girl, we got class in like 2 minutes. Jaque stops in front of our classrooms, and looks me in the eye. I have a feeling she's about to say something really important. She's not smiling and is being awfully calm, plus she used my nickname; mood swings much or is this the adult thing that comes with puberty?

"Like one year I think, maybe less to be honest. Why are you asking boo?"

"'Cause I've grown to know you better than you know yourself, and seeing Sienna really got to you this morning."

I feel the tears well up again, ugh why does the thought of Sienna make me cry. What am I a little girl?

"It's just the betrayal cut so deep, I never thought someone so close to me could switch up so quickly; but that's just high school you know? I still need some time then I'll get over her fake ass."

"That's the spirit g, if there's one thing I've learned this year it's to keep my friends close, but my enemies closer 'cause their the ones that will never switch up on me. Our hatred for each other will be consistent, but friends will leave when they find a better offer."

Summer really changed everyone, now Jaque is out here speaking profoundly. High school really messing with everyone. The bell rings to signal the start of class.

"Welp, now wise Jaque got us late on the first day, but that's life boo see you after class."

Jaque chuckles then blows me a kiss as she heads into her class.

"Mhmm, luh ya bish forever and ever."

I place one foot in the door of my English class, and leave one out as I respond,

"Luh ya more till the end of time chica!"

Seconds later my lace catches on the door and I face plant in front of my entire AP English classmates for the rest of junior year. So much for not taking L's this year. My forehead is throbbing and I can literally feel the bruise beginning to form. Ooo that's not going to look pretty at all.

"That's one way to make an introduction on the first day Ms. Miller, don't you think?"

What an embarrassment, not only am I late I also tripped over my laces. Snickers and giggles erupt all around the room, but Ms. A makes my new classmates hush. What happened to chivalry, I thought it wasn't completely dead yet. I feel some random stranger help me to my feet. He is really good looking, and the definition of basically flawless and now he is picking up my things. Don't sweat it Coco it's probably because he just walked in to a girl lying on the floor and needs her out of his way. Time for intense damage control which can either make or break me, I'm praying that Java Chip has kicked in by now.

"What can I say Ms. A, if I'm going to be late might as well make it fashionable and memorable entrance. You do understand right?"

I dust myself off, as I wait for her response. Ms. A was my English teacher last year, and I'm happy to have her again because she's used to all my weirdness by now. My head still hurts, never knew carpet could hurt like a ducking--

"I believe ladies are supposed to be graceful Courtney, but its your cup of tea and nastily bruised forehead. You've completed your part in the introduction game now, so find a seat anywhere."

Wow Ms. A really upped her comeback game, okayyy junior year's about to be fun. Looking around the room I spot Lindsey and Daphne, my favorite girls in the entire world, giggling at me obvi. We've been friends since 7th grade, and yet they still laugh when I do dumb ish rather than help me. I hurriedly sit in the seat they saved for me, hopefully no one remembers this morning or caught that entire charade on camera. Lindsay turns to me tears welled up in her eyes from how hard she's laughing,

"You're really dumb but at least got Francesco's attention."

Lindsay points out the stranger that helped me out. He's really fine specimen, not gonna cap, but I could never stand a chance. Besides there's still Alex to think about. Hmm on second thought Alex pretty much friend-zoned me so I can always look around. We all look at him in awe, and giggle at Lindsay's over dramatic antics.

"Ladies, is there something funny you would like to share about your thoughts on our summer reading assignment, The Stranger?"

Shucks that's what I didn't read this summer.
