As I walked towards the old railway, I took notice of how sunny of a day it was. I also took notice of how it wasn't even warm outside, and how I was still needing a light jacket to maintain a manageable body temperature. New York just has me confused I guess.

I neared the old railway, glancing up and down it, when my eyes landed on a girl. She probably was a year younger then me, but that's not what intrigued me. It was her gaze.

Her gaze was set somewhere in the distance away from me, down the railway. If you didn't know it was well abandoned, you'd think she was waiting for a train to come steaming up the tracks, whistle blowing and smoke swirling in the air. But everyone in the area took notice of the little kids playing around it in the warm summer months, and the endless teens laying across the tracks.

I decided on that day, I would learn about that girl.

As she held her same view, I approached her, and sat down next to her on the side of those tracks. It wasn't until I shifted my foot, did she notice me sitting there next to me. Boy was she something.

When you looked at her, it made you want to smile. It made you want to be able to brag about how she was special to you in some way, shape, or form. She looked so different from the other girls you might take notice of seeing. She had that certain something about her that when you caught her eye, you didn't want to look away.

But that's how we say there for awhile, in a comfortable silence, just staring at each other.

"You look like you've seen a ghost." She finally said, breaking the silence that surrounded the two of us.

I bit my lip, looking down then back up at her. "Sorry, I was just... thinking.'

She raised an eyebrow, as if she didn't believe the statement I had just made. "About what?"

Her question had taken me aback, but I decided I'd find a way to answer this without sounding terribly stupid. "I don't tell just anyone about my thoughts."

A light laugh escaped her lips, and she smiled softly. "Well, in that case, I'm Shay."

I offered her back the smile she had given me, and I introduced myself. "I'm Shilo."

She nodded, and we began some small talk. The usual 'how old are you' followed by the 'what brings you here' and all that jazz. But not until the sun was setting, did I tell her just why I was here, sitting next to her instead of getting home.

"As you have noticed, I sat down here with you. It wasn't because I was trying to pick up a girl, but because I was intrigued by what you were looking out there at. And on this day, I have decided, that I want to learn about you."

She gave a half-smile towards me, and nodded. "I think I'd like to learn about you as well."

After she said what she did, we stood up, said goodbyes, and began walking. I began walking up the railway, she began walking down the railway. Not once did I look back, but also not once did I regret the decision I had just made.
