ASHLEY'S POV
"We did everything we could in the surgery on Dylan. We managed to find the bullet and get it out. He'll be okay. I suggest he stays a few days until we're sure he's fully recovered," the doctor said as he tried to hide the fact that was close to crying. It seemed that I was the only one who noticed. Why would he react like that? Dylan was just another patient to him.
"Thank you so much for saving him!" Mrs. Haines yelled as she hugged him tightly. I could faintly hear her sobs. They must of been happy tears.
I watched the doctor and Mrs. Haines hug longer than they should have. Could this man be the person she was visiting? I didn't know she had friends since I rarely saw her leave the house. Greg and Sam went back to the chairs we were seating in. He was holding her hand while she was on the phone. She probably had to update her family that Dylan was going to be just fine. He's fine. I didn't need to worry about him dying on me anymore.
"Ashley you don't mind if I see him first do you?" Mrs. Haines asked as she pulled away from the doctor. I haven't caught his name.
"Of course I don't Mrs. Haines. There's no reason for you to ask me that," I said smiling at her.
"Thank you sweetie," she said with a frown but quickly replaced it with a smile. What did I say wrong?
Mrs. Haines followed the doctor so he could show her his room. I know she won't be able to talk to him because he's probably asleep but I guess she just wanted to be there when he woke up. I walked over to Greg and Sam who were whispering to each other. When Sam saw me coming towards them she tapped him on the shoulder and pointed to me. They stopped talking to each other as soon as I sat in a chair across from them.
"Where did Aunt Susan go?" Sam asked after she looked around the waiting room that had a few other people in it.
"She went to see Dylan. My dad should be around here somewhere. I should check if he's okay. You guys call me if you're going to leave the hospital," I said before getting up from the chair and headed for the first nurse's station I saw.
"Can I help you young lady?" a nurse asked when she notice me coming.
"Um I was wondering where Mr. Malone was placed. I'm his daughter Ashley," I said knowing that the nurse would have the information. There's only one family with the last name Malone in this whole town.
"Oh yes he's in room 38B. It's just down this hall and the last door on the right," she said as she pointed to a specific hallway. I nodded as I memorized the directions and the room number.
I thanked her and headed in the direction of the hallway. I started to get nervous as I got closer to his room. If it wasn't for Mr. Haines almost killing my dad, I probably would have been still mad at him for treating Dylan so poorly. I wonder if he knew that Mr. Haines wasn't his real father. He had to. He was his best friend back then after all.
When I made it to his room, I stood in front of the door trying to decide if it was the best time to apologize for my behavior. I shouldn't had slapped him but he made me so mad that I couldn't control myself. I took a deep breath and then let it out before grabbing the door knob and turned it.
"Ashley? Honey how's Dylan? Will he be okay?" my mom asked when she noticed the door was opening.
"Yeah he'll be fine. They just want to keep him for a few days until he's fully recovered. How long does dad have to stay?" I said as I walked in and closed the door. I would have to check on Mrs. Haines after I spend some time with my parents.
