Mark's POV
I can still remember the night she died, right down to the little details. It was in 2000, I still wonder how such a dreadful thing could have happened on what should have been a wonderful day. I don't know how it happened or why, all I know is that it did.
Callie has always been so beautiful, but when she was younger it radiated off her. Her youth and innocence gave her a warm glow. It was the day after her birthday, Lea, my wife, was putting away the all birthday decorations from the day before. Callie had just turned one and hosted her first ever birthday party. James was running chaotically around the lounge in his superhero underpants. He was five years old, who could blame him. I remember thinking how blessed I was with my family, they were perfect. 'I'm just going to go and drop this bowl of at the Kreyson's, they let us use it for the crisps. Can you put Callie and James to bed, Mark?'
'Oh course hunny,' I said kissing my wife lightly on the cheek, I was distracted by the Callie, who was sat on the lounge floor crying as James ran circles around her. She picked her keys up off the kitchen counter and headed out to the car.
You could hear the sound of the crash from inside the house. it was deafening, a ringing left in my ears. It left James and Callie in a stunned silent shock. As Lea had pulled out the drive way a truck smashed into the side of her car. She died in that crash and so did a little part of me.
For four years we had managed to scrape by without her. Trying not to think of her, er beautiful hazel eyes, her long, sleek brown hair, her dimples when she smiled, the way she laughed. God I missed her so much, still do. But then, aged only 5, Callie was diagnosed and my life fell apart again.
Callie had a bad cold for a couple of weeks but that' s all I thought it was. Then one night, she ran into my bedroom. I couldn't sleep that night, caught up thinking about Lea. Callie was crying, blood was streaming from her nose, thick and red. I took her to the bathroom and tried to stem the flow. But after fifteen minutes it was still coming on heavy. I picked her up, woke up James, who was now ten years old, and put them both into our blue car and drove straight to the hospital. A few weeks later Callie was diagnosed with cancer. When the doctors told me I remember looking down at her cute innocent face, she was smiling and laughing, her hazel eyes shining. She reminded me so much of Lea. She had no idea what was wrong though, no idea about the scary truth of her condition.
