 *****

This is my first try at writing a book so all comments and criticism are very welcome and I'd love it. Thank you :)

Each chapter will be about 600+ words.

I'm creating an interactive tumblr at www.granted-book.tumblr.com with character information, character I.D. cards etc.

I got my letter at 12 AM exactly. I could see my card through the crumpled brown paper that had “Ingin Corporation” printed in a thick black font in the top right corner.  I turned it over, peeled open the glued flap and emptied the contents into my hand. The card read:

___________________________________________________________

NAME: Rosario

GENDER: F

DOB: 26/10/3043

ISSUE: 06/63

EXP: 06/69

PLACE OF BIRTH: Mexico, Earth, Milky Way, Virgo Supercluster

BLOOD TYPE: O

___________________________________________________________

There were also a few random arrows on the card which I am guessing is an alien language.

There was also a fairly large pile of pages stapled together inside. Rules, safety information, departure date etc. all written in very formal text. I was just happy to finally have my I.D. and know that I made it into Ingin. I have applied over fifteen times and this time they accepted. My mothers are obviously upset because now I will be far away from home for six years. At the same time they will be glad I'll be doing something successful. They don't know what my new job does and I couldn't risk telling them. They did know however, like most other people, that Ingin was the most powerful company in our solar system and our neighbour solar system. If the company's information got out to the public 1) the corporation would be shut down immediately and 2) the whole world would collapse into poverty. Up until my acceptance I hardly knew much about what they did. All I knew was that it could change my life and that's what everybody else in the world knew. Every year eighteen billion people apply for a job at Ingin Corporation but only twenty-seven get in. I was one of the twenty-seven. I still haven't processed it yet.

Last month I was told everything. Literally everything, about how the company works and what they do daily. Now in less than twenty-four hours I'll be brought to the satellite base circulating 223 miles above the earth. It will be scary going to space. I mean, I've been two times but the take-off is always the worst part and there is a chance the craft could explode while exiting the atmosphere. I try to just shut my eyes and think about cats. While I traveled to Mars at nine years old with my family, our craft got hit by an Amor asteroid which punctured the fuel tank. Basically we were stranded for 3 days with hardly any water or food. I still have nightmares about when the lights flickered and the alarm sounded but its been ten years so hopefully I'll be over it. I don't want to look weaker than everybody else before our first day even begins.

The first week of work will teach me about my job and what I am going to do. Six of the group - including myself - will be in Granting Execution, nine will be in Granting Assortment, seven will be in Finance and five will be in Shipment. These areas all have their own floors on the satellite  from 2-5. I've heard nothing about level one and it wasn't mentioned in the pile of stapled sheets. I have been hoping that maybe someone working in my level will tell me about it.
